Travel Camera Redux

Looking for P&S for short trip to Hawaii (born and raised there, don't need itinerary, thanks). Don't need 100X zoom or anything special, like to keep price around $200, weather resistant, not waterproof necessarily. Looking for a: Rugged, b: picture quality. All other features secondary.
Thanks.

I gave my son my old reliable, D40. That camera has been around the islands many times, thousands of photos, maybe I should requisition it back, put the 16-85 on it and be done. Probably no P&S will equal its quality???

You could do worse than a Canon G7X-II, but new, it would exceed your budget. Might be a decent used one out there somewhere.

Thats way out of budget. I see a used G12 for $210; any recommendations for that one?

Requisition it back, put the 16-85 on it, and be done. Quality P&S cost a lot more. Plus, nothing new to learn. Better to enjoy the trip than struggle with a new camera.

That, and if you want you could add a "Gopro" style cheap version for less than 100 for the rest of the places/situations (I have used a Yi Action one and it is good for it's price)

Your best bet would be an older model "G" series Canon for around $200.00 or a Nikon "P" series point & shoot.

Yup, I found a G9X for under $200, think I'm going that way. But juan mentioned "go pro", and that is an interesting idea.

Thanks, guys

The Olympus TG-5 would meet your requirements except for price. It is small, tough, good picture quality, and waterproof. Adorama has a used TG-4, the previous generation model, for $289.00.

The Nikon AW-130 would fit the bill, you should be able to get them off ebay. In fact, I found one within your budget.

Below is a shot taken under water of a manatee in Homosassa springs wildlife state park, Florida. And, this camera also takes great shots above water.

My wife and I have used Panasonic LUMIX cameras with Leica lenses for p&s and have had great success.

I’ve been very satisfied with a series of Lumix lx series, pocketable, great lens, modest zoom and good battery life. You should be able to find one used with you budget. The “LS” series has longer zooms and is a nit more expensive.
