I use Smug Mug and so far have been pleased with the service. I like that it lets you customize the look of your galleries, stores original versions of your pics, and gives you stats on the activity on your site (yes, I'm a geek for that stuff). I compared a bunch of them before signing up and felt that it was the best deal for the money.
On the negative side there have been a couple of times over the last month where the entire site was down. Never for more than a few minutes, but it is frustrating when things like that happen.
I just ordered my first set of prints through them. I haven't gotten them yet so I can't comment on the quality. I've heard they're good, but won't now until I see them.

I am using smug mug and like it very much. The temporary down time is the only negative so far. Good value.

I am looking into smugmug for a site. All I know for sure, one of the labs you can choose from to print your photos is Bayphoto. I've been using Bayphoto for over a year now, and am very impressed. You can choose "professional" or non "professional". "Professional" cost a little more per print, but they correct the image if needed. Their monitors are callibrated to their printer. Non "professional" they are printed just the way you send them, and are a little cheaper. The "professional" service is also guarenteed, if your unhappy they are reprinted and shipped for free. Non "professional", your stuck with them. Pros that have their monitors calibrated, usually don't want someone else adjusting their photos.

I have to say that in the dozen times I have placed orders (large orders), six of those times something needed reprinted but not because of correction errors. The problems were always: wrinkled paper, wrong backing, wrong mount ect. But every time, I called customer service and they were reprinted with a rush order, and overnight delivery.

Also you can get Kodak metalic paper and Fuji Pearl paper (additional costs).

I was told you had to edit your photos before sending them to Smugmug - Is this true or will they edit them for you ?

Do your own editing before uploading. Smug Mug will do everything possible to help you with your web site but you've got to do your part when it comes to your pictures. I usually up load full size (12 x 18) images that run anywhere from 5mb to 15mb. From these, they will produce the size requested by the customer.

I've been a Smug Mug user over 5 years and I will not change. Anytime that I've called customer service, I've received a reply in minutes. The service is wonderful.
I'm set up to sell and I've found that the print quality is great. Never had a return.

All sites go down from time to time. Smug Mug keeps you informed of their progress whenever problems appear (which is rare).

I've got the Pro version. It allows you to do anything for a flat rate per year: unlimited uploads, unlimited hits, multi-location backup storage of all files, great service. They maintain a separate website for user called www.digitalgrin.com. Check it out.

I use SmugMug Pro and am quite happy with it. When I do a wedding or portrait session, my client may live 30-40 miles away. This site is easy to upload to and great to sell from.

I realize sites like Smug Mug, Picasa, etc. are convenient places to store, organize, and show, one's photos. I've got 2 or 3 on Picasa that I had to put there to upload to a forum once (copies only).

This is not intended to badmouth any websites, or people's use of them, just offering an alternative that is not expensive and is controlled entirely by the owner. This is just something to think about.

It takes a very high level of trust to store one's precious photos, e-mails, data or files on a server controlled by someone else. Password protected or not, their equipment is subject to the same hiccups and security breaches as yours; and suppose the site owner(s) decide for whatever reason to take it down, or you discover a favorite shot of yours in a magazine, sold by someone else?

I use a 1TB USB external hard drive for all my bulk storage needs, partitioned for different types of files, partially for security and partially to keep these large files off my operating hard drive.
