Where were you when I needed to spend $1700 for this extraordinary lens?
Does the lens extend when it is zoomed or is it all internal

It is not the push/pull but it does extend. It is the Mark II you can tell but the zoom ring, it is an excellent lens, if I did not already have it I would snatch it up.
What is push/pull? but it does extend.

Push/pull lenses zoom by moving the zoom ring toward or away from the camera body rather than turning the zoom ring

I have a older 100-300 L-lens that works that way. Instead of rotating the outer barrel of the lens to adjust the zoom, you slide the outer barrel back and forth, push/pull. I'm not crazy about it but I didn't pay $1250 for the lens, more like $150. And I got an L-lens that I had wanted for a while.
A Push-Pull zoom is sometimes referred as "trombone" zooming. Both versions extend as they zoom.
