That is not necessarily "Windows" causing the "burn out" (whatever that means). I've been running Windows since 85'. No burn out yet. Don't confuse the computer with the operating system. My current PC was built in 2008. I have done some upgrading, but it's still humming along.

Like you, I’ve been a Windows PC person forever. I’m very curious as to why some people move from Windows to Macs?? I truly don’t understand, and would appreciate getting a little insight from you and others as to why? Thanks.

Apple tends to be faster than my windows. I have never had to have my Mac's fixed. Never had a virus. Always does an update without a problem. About once a year I have always had to take my windows computers in the shop for repairs. I have owned 2 HP's, 2 Lenovos, 2 Dells, 2 custom builts and a Fujitsu. Now granted my Fujitsu has never broken. Even though the Mac's cost more I have had "0" headaches. Apple help is always very helpful and speak perfict english. Even if I ask a question about integrating photos on the computer, they actually help. My phone, iMac, Mac laptop, and iPad all play together well. They all play well together with my Sony cameras. Some things are easier on my Windows computers but the photos are much faster on the Mac's.

Just curious but what Windows product, items, specifically burned out in 18 months or less and how were you using them. I have been using Windows for over 10 years with never a "burnout". I just happened to start out with a PC and haven't made a change as of yet but I do like the screens on the Macs.

In my case, it was HP laptops that had motherboard de-lamination apparently from internal overheating. A buddy of mine also had the same problem.

I used DOS or Windows my entire career because that was what was provided to me at work. When i retired in 2014 i was looking for a low cost decent notebook and found my used 2009 Macbook pro for $300 from someone upgrading. My experience is that the Mac computers just run with no crashes and no problems with viruses or malware. No surprises. I liked it so much that i bought a used 2010 Mac Pro Desktop. 6 core processor hyper threaded to 12 cores. Used $400. A company was upgrading their server so i snagged it up. I use the latest versions of Lightroom and Photoshop with no issues whatsoever. All of my apple products (iPhone, iPad, Mackbook Pro and Mac pro ) all stay updated automatically with one another.

I will admit that it took about a week to get used to the platform compared to windows.

I understand but that was a cooling problem with HP, de-lamination will stop a freight train. That can't be blamed on Windows but more likely on insufficient air flow.

I use a MacBookPro (9,1), late 2012 model with 16 Gb memory, 480Gb SSD, Intel I7, MacOS High Sierra with Infinity photo and Luminar 2018 & Luminar 3. Works great.

I've purchased several 2012 MacBooks and rebuilt for family members. It's the last year to allow RAM and Hard Drive to be easily replaced. Like yours I max out the RAM and install an SSD, they run great and that year also had the DVD drive.

I am a Mac user for a lot of years and find it great in every way. I also have an old Windows machine that is used for a second back-up of all my work.

Part of the discussion I believe we are talking Mac at $1,000.00+ and Windows that people are buying for a few hundred dolars.

One thing to keep in mind about Macs is that Mojave is the last OS to support 32-bit command code word size. The next OS will be 64-bit only. All of a sudden a huge batch of your software apps will be unusable. On my 8,2 MBPro High Sierra is as advanced as I will go.

At present, A DVD isn't really necessary as everything can be loaded from the web. I do own one portable DVD burner and us it probably less than once a year. Mine cost about $30 and is only used when needed. Saves the weight of carrying one around inside your device all the time. Thumb drives are more portable and store more. If you need to store a lot of info a small portable drive or a portable external SSD will store even more. CD/DVD is so, yesterday! Best of luck.

I edit (mostly LightRoom) on a mid 2012 Macbook Pro. About a year ago, I increased to 16 GB RAM and a 2 TB SSD. There are no new Macbooks that have what I do on this old one and I dread the day I have to buy new.
