Just purchased this new Fugi 50-140 lens,I am afraid it may have a problem. When I tilt lens up & down with camera Off,something in the lens seems to slide up & down. With camera on this doe's not happen.Do I have a problem or is this normal? Have been using Nikon 70-200 & this does not happen ,Hoping to switch from Nikon.I have been watching Ugg for several years,as an 86 year old country boy I was finally able to log in & this my first post. Thanks for any help.joe ps.There is a large pond of water lilies nearby, hoping to take some photos this PM.Thanks again.
I own that lens, and yes it makes a noise like you describe (even when not connected to a camera at all) - but it works perfectly well. I imagine it's one of the inner elements or groups that are in play when the image stabilization system is engaged. The Fuji 80MM macro lens does the same thing, though the macro really sounds broken as the "shaking inner parts" sound is much more obvious.
Bottom line, the lens is fine - go take some shots!
Yes, this lens does make a strange sound. But I checked it out with a Fuji tech rep, and was told it was "normal." By the way, it's a fantastic lens and very comparable to the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 which I used to own before switching to Fuji.
It has to do with the stabilization, no worries it’s a great lens, equal to any of the best 70-200s.
Thanks to all that helped,I got that idea but wanted others opinions.
