I own the Panasonic Lumix ZS-100 and I really enjoy using this camera. I think that it deserves a look.

I just purchased the DMC ZS-100 which was recommended by many UHH'ers and just love the camera. Does what I wanted and so much more. Larry..

I thought I replied here yesterday. Oh well!

I believe a viewfinder is mandatory if you are going to be outside in bright sunlight. So my recommendations are:
For pocketable great zoom, 1/2.3" sensor : Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS70 ($297.99 new)
For pocketable good zoom but 1" sensor: Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 ($497.99 new)

Don't forget to consider the Olympus Tough TG5 or 6. Totally pocketable, takes better pics than one would expect, shoots RAW, can bring it anywhere, even under water....

I don't know about everybody else's everything else.
I really like my Nikon A900.
Good zoom, good range, good megapixel count, good pictures.
Aand it fits in my pocket.
I was severely tempted by the P900- but it was just as big and heavy as a "real" camera.

Go to KEH, or your favorite used camera outlet. select point & shoot from the search option and there you go. If you select price ascending you can look at the cheap ones first and find some to try. KEH prices start at $2.49.
What can I say, I'm cheap.

I recently picked up a used Sony HX 80 for $250 It's in my shirt pocket nearly all the time when it's not in use. It has a 24 -720 mm equivalent non interchangeable zeiss lens, a small but 18 mp sensor and an eye level pop up up viewfinder to supplement the articulated back of camera screen. My bigger "real" cameras are now infrequently used. Here's a heavily cropped photo from last week. I've not attempted to print a photo from the hx 80 but based on what I see when viewing at 100% on my computer, I expect good results when I finally do print one.

Canon G7X MK ll is a great performer with a fast low-light lens. I originally thought the 100mm may have been a little short on zoom, but I now realize it covers 95% or more of what I shoot. Handles street and landscape excellent. If more zoom is needed/wanted, the Leica C (Type 112) is excellent, even smaller and lighter, and has 200mm zoom but costs more and may not have a lot of features some want. I found out too much zoom is not all that good when handheld anyway in most instances. You should have no trouble finding something but ensure it fits you...some brands have menus that require a lot of deciphering. The G7X MK ll has intuitive menus, excellent IQ and color saturation...very pleasing.

I use a Nikon P7800 for this and there are still used ones offered on Ebay for about $2-300. I like this camera because it has an EVF, a fully articulating screen and a flash

I bought the G7XII a few months ago....super crisp and user friendly in auto or manual.
Very happy with its capabilities, wifi, shoots raw and conveniently fits in my fanny pack.

As much as it kills me to say this a Cell phone might be your best bet.... If you are not going for large blowups why would you want the additional bulk and weight. Top shelf phone cams can do wondrous things nowadays....

I'm looking for a good point and shoot that will fit in a pocket or small bag high megapixel with good telephoto zoom and Good IQ. No interchangeable lenses. For shooting basically street photography landscapes static images. I presently own a D 500 and don't always need to carry a brick with me, I think a bridge and/or 4/3 might be a little too big to carry around.

Interesting that most want to recommend the latest greatest, MOST EXPENSIVE p&s cameras. I have a variety of six cameras from p&s to my Canon DSLR with L lenses. But I wanted an easy to use pocket camera with good zoom capability. I recently purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS50 used for $190 mint condition with original box and accessories. I love this camera and especially considering, in addition to the LCD screen, it has a viewfinder for sunny days and a 25X zoom. Yesterday I shot a college soccer camp using my DSLR but a few with this ZS50 and am amazed at the pics I got. If you don't want to put your whole piggy bank into a pocket camera, look at the Lumix ZS50 or ZS70 Used.

I need to clarify that the Lumix ZS50 has 30X zoom not 25X zoom.
