I'm sharing a rather dynamic photo I took today to ask your opinion on which way to crop. Tight (A), Medium (B), or full image (C)

Brent, The composition in full image works for me. Great image.
Oie.
I like tight and full. (Always have that problem differentiating shots when I like both.)
Tight has great impact for the effect of the waves, you're "right in there";
Full is great for showing the relationship to the water.
If I HAD to pick one, I suppose it would be full.
Very nice shot.
As they are, only the full image would work because there is a lot of pixelation in the tight and medium crops. Assuming you can crop without pixelation, which crop to use depends on what you mean to say with the image. Your choice. I'd use the full frame because it gives a better sense of what the surfer is doing -- riding a wave. If possible, I'd also crop so the surfer is not centered horizontally. The centering isn't pleasing to my eye, I think because it gives the surfer too little room to maneuver.
Whatever you choose, I would recommend sharpening the image much less aggressively -- there are distracting outlines around the surfer's face.
I like the full image so you can see the wave

Thanks Stan. I'm going to count up all the votes for each image and the majority will win on how I end up with the final crop. I appreciate your input.

OK longshadow, I'm giving you TWO votes since you are split! lol Thanks for your input!

Eric, These images are all reduced in size from the original since UHH doesn't like huge files (it takes longer to load) . The original is very high resolution and could be any size and not have pixelation going on. You are correct about the aggressive sharpening and I should be more mello about that in the future. I did a mock HDR with this image and got a little crazy! Thanks for taking the time to voice your thoughts on this one.

Thanks for your input dragonswing!
While the first really close crop shows the person better, it misses the composite of the waves. I like the full photo (#3) best.

Brent, I looked at the image as a judge for the Chicago Area Camera clubs. Why full frame? It gives the surfer an area to go to

I figured the pixelation was immaterial, since the purpose of your post was what crop would work best. I played around with the full version a little bit, and I think the best crop would be to chop a little bit from the right side of the image and perhaps come off the bottom to put the surfer off center. Just one opinion.
Again, it's a nice image.
FULL image looks best to me, Brent.

I did amend my post - If I HAD to pick ONE, it would be the full shot.
