I recently purchased a Nikon P900 and have found it to be a pretty good camera. Except for one annoying thing. The EVF has no eye cup, and if the sun if off to the side, it’s darned near impossible to see through it without cupping a hand over the side of the camera. What to do?
I went to a local camera shop and picked up a Hoodman eye cup, but it’s too small to stretch over the eyepiece on the camera. I tried using some tiny pieces of Velcro, but that’s not going to work. So I did a little online research and found a company in New Jersey called Edmund Optics. They sell a variety of rubber eyecups and it turns out that their item stock # 60-100, style B works, so I ordered one. It should be here in about 5 days. Hopefully. What I read about it was that it makes a tight fit over the rim of the EVF, but apparently it stays there. So if I’m out on a particularly sunny day, I can just grab the eyecup from my backpack and slip it on. The only negative thing is that it disables the rear screen, but if you tend to shoot mostly with the EVF, it’s not that big a deal.
Anyway, I thought I’d share this bit for the benefit of all those who have the P900 but curse the fact that it has no eyecup. I’ll let you all know how it works when I get it. Oh, I don’t know if the P1000 has an eyecup or not, but if it doesn’t, this should work for it, too. I’d include the link to the company, but this is the original post, so I don’t want to break the rules. But you have the name.
Could you post a link to Edmond Optics? There's another post that needs a replacement eye cup for a Hoodman (I think) and this link may be useful to that person.
Thanks!

Sure.
https://www.edmundoptics.com/p/style-b-rubber-eyeguard-1-piece/16670/That’s for the eyecup I ordered. Here’s the link to just get to their website:
www.edmondoptics.comThis is probably going to get moved by admlin, now, to the Links and Resources section, but so be it. Or maybe admin will just be kind enough to leave it here.
Thanks, Wingpilot! Need this for the P1000!
Probably not. It seems that only posts with a link in the very first post gets moved that way. Just a WAG, though.
That's the one i use on my P900, works VERY well.

Thanks! Good to know. I enjoy using the P900 but it definitely needs some sort of protection from the sunlight coming in from the side. I am glad this will work (when it arrives).
I’m just glad someone makes something that will work. Can’t wait for it to get here so I can try it out.
The eyecup from Edmund Optics arrived today, and I have to say that I am disappointed. I tried for some time to slip it onto the eyepiece with no luck whatsoever. I could get it on, but it immediately slipped off. It absolutely would not stay on. If you haven’t ordered one yet, you may want to hold off. Perhaps someone has figured this out and can offer advice.

How did you get it to mount on the eyepiece on the P900?
The eyecup from Edmond Optics project failed. However, maybe I can modify it to fit around the diopter adjusting wheel and see if that works. It’s a very soft rubber, not rigid at all, so it can be stretched to fit around the viewfinder, so that may make it difficult to make a cutout for the adjusting wheel. We’ll see. It’s now become a project and the quest for just the right item.
Today I went to Stewart’s Photo in Anchorage and got a 67mm lens hood for the P900. It cost me a whopping $13.95, made by ProMaster. There was some earlier regarding Nikon’s not including a lens hood on a camera with a lens that zooms out to a 35mm eq. of 2000mm. This one screws into the filter ring threads and the hood itself bayonets onto the mounting ring. Should work well.
