Periodically this issue come up in the forum, and there are those who take a strong stance on an incorrect answer...so let's get it straight.
Lens look plural, but it is actually the singular form of a noun that means a curved transparent substance that people look through: it usually refers to the lens of glass, contacts, or camera.
The plural form of lens is lenses. Example: I have a 50mm lens along with several other lenses.
Hope this helps with clarification of its usage and spelling.

I think correct nomenclature is important because what may seem obvious to us can be confusing to a novice.

And while we are “at it” , let us have a go at apostrophes. They are used ONLY when you denoting a possessive case, as in “my wife’s camera” or if plural as in “my friends’ cameras”. This is correct “Nikon’s announcement”. This is not correct “I have 6 lenses for my Nikon’s”. Got it people? Americans have mangled the English language enough already.

um, not ONLY. Also used when identifying contractions - didn't you know that ?

Grammar and spelling are important. They are both going the way of the dinosaurs. Political correctness and diversity training are more important to educators now.

How do you spell it?

Norm Crosby could easily resolved and significantly shortened this thread. Any Hoggers live in Boston? He’s there somewhere.

I think things would be much easier if we all spoke the punctuation - like Victor Borge. Then at least the punctuation would be understood https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcGA4alhPas at about the 5:08 mark

I believe I could start a thread on this forum by stating that the sun is a round ball of extremely hot gas. The thread would grow to at least 12 pages and the last few of those pages would have people arguing over the angle of incidence on a mirror placed upon the ground.

Maybe so but, since the whole point of social media is the social thing, the conversation, then you would have done a good thing. If the conversation branches off into side tangents, it branches off, no big deal, it's all part of what makes a conversation a conversation. It's all good...

Does colquilisiams mean the same as colloquialisms? Just asking for a friend?

I realize that some get angry over being called out on spelling errors but honestly there are times when a post is hard to read because of poor spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. I would rather have someone pleasantly correct my errors so that I do not look like a dunce on a continual basis.

Yes I do realize that some here are from foreign lands and have problems with the English language. But would those people who are trying to get used to the English not want to learn the correct spelling of words they use on a daily basis.

Almost every day I see the word where used instead of were as in, We were there. I see the words advice and advise used interchangeably when they each have a separate meaning. I will advise you on giving advice to your neighbor.

There are others but I will stop there. Words, spelling and punctuation do make a difference.

Dennis

Many years ago, an advertising exec for whom I did some commercial work told me that he could sell ice to an eskimo if he put the ad on television often enough. Of course, today he'd have to sell that ice to an Inuit person because the term eskimo is now not PC. We are a country of some crazy contradictions. Wow.

The two Olympus lenses that work with the Olympus 1.4x teleconverter are the 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO and the 300mm f/4 PRO. Double that for full frame equivalent (“FFE”), which results in a FFE range from 80mm to 840mm. Teleconverter is not cheap, but it preserves quality. That’s a lot of “bang for the buck.”
