Newbie here, seek info for road trip in NC mountains.
Leaving for road trip from Greenville, SC mid-September. Plan on visiting Flat Rock, Asheville, NC, Cataloochie Valley for elk, Maggie Valley, Cherokee for native culture, Blue Ridge Parkway for waterfalls, scenic vistas, rust and old buildings, etc., maybe some leaf peeping. Planning on a month +/- in the general vicinity. Looking for ideas for itinerary, tripod holes, bears, B&B's, restaurants, old time musical events. Will be using photos for a series of lecture events. Any advice or help would be truly appreciated. (Using Nikon D500, D200, lenses 80-400,28mm 105 macro, etc.)

Loc: Phoenix Arizona area
Everybody takes snapshots there, but Mabry Mill is still worth a stop.
Welcome to the forum.
Side note: If you are a flat-lander, downshift going down the hills. I've seen a few plastic wheel covers that were melted in the center. Not to mention that getting your brakes HOT (riding them) is not good or safe.
They can get hot to a point where they won't work.
Thanks for the feedback. I have shot Mabry Mills in four seasons. Love that site.

While in Ashville, NC please allow a full day and evening to tour the Biltmore Estate. AMAZING photo ops.

Suggest you stop for a night or two in Blowing Rock, a beautiful town just off the Parkway. Lots of B & Bs to choose from. Back on the Parkway, the Linville Viaduct is a pretty amazing place, and well-photographed, and the Linville Falls area is also very scenic. Little Switzerland is definitely worth checking out, too. Sounds like you'll be able to really take your time and enjoy the area. Have a great trip!
I live in Mars Hill, just north of Asheville. There are way too many sites to mention and many are too well traveled.
I would recommend the Brevard area for the waterfalls.
Also the River Arts district of Asheville for the old buildings and interesting colors.
Many thanks for all of the helpful replies. I have shot each of these places, love the murals in the Asheville River Arts area, trains and mills. Will go back to Highlands (Falls)and Brevard (White squirrels) for fall color, checked out Little Switzerland and Penland (craft school) a month ago but the fog was thick. Always scouting for new sites in that photographically rich area. Spending a week in a rented travel trailer in Cataloochie Valley. Put that on your own bucket list. I live near Clemson, SC, another fabulous place to shoot, especially the SC Botanical Gardens.
