As a Southerner, I take exception to your laying this mantle of modern bigotry on “the South”! It is everywhere, not only in every state in America, but everywhere in the world.

Having read the initial post and all the commentary that followed, I am convinced we are not the country we thought we were. At least, not the country I thought we were. What a disappointment.

CWG wrote "Democrats, ... have tried to be tactful and courteous in their disagreement.." What planet have you been living on for the past three years? The epitome of rancor and hatred have spewed from the mouths of Democrats unceasingly ever since Mr. Trump announced his candidacy! These "tactful" Democrats are now extending the same rancor and hatred to anyone who does not support their extreme uber-socialist agenda. Villification by Democrats is the order of the day for any conservative-thinking person. Is calling all white people racist and non-white conservatives "race-traitors" courteous?

That's not what's happening if you can't see what Trump is doing daily, as a LYING racist dictator loving crap he is then your either blind or you support that piece of crap. You can't spin what's right in front of your face. There are a few Republicans that have spoken out not nearly enough so let's hope 2020 will see a change in the Senate.

He was our OG of the period. Overall, I think he, along with many others, made many sacrifices and created a pretty good foundation for our country.

G.W. Identified them as he understood them, wrote them down & then attempted to practiced them all his life
The current occupant of the White House simply does not!!

As for "The founding Fathers" (the majority) fully understood that Slavery was dead ass wrong (the Brits were in the process of actually outlawing it in England) they put it aside to form our "More Prefect Union" kicking the toxic can of slavery down the road for future generations of Americans to solve -- Well solve it we did with Over 700,000 dead Americans as a result during our Civil War -- Did we? -- Come the 1960's with more laws in an attempt to reform that "More Prefect Union" -- I say keep at it -- This country is worth the effort -- We may even get there some day

I see nothing wrong with Washington's "Rules of Civility & Decent Behavior"
Lets all return & have a good ole look-see at ... (show quote)

It’s rarely been practiced in Congress, let alone the non political world. It wasn’t practiced by the Continental Congress or the constitutional convention.
At best you can say it’s practiced more in the breach.
In the current case, Trump has nothing to gain, and everything to lose by civil discourse.
Besides, being civil would bore him.

At least we are not calling each other horrible names, despite the innuendos.

Maybe if we watched a ballgame together we might start disparaging each other. But that can be fun.

I am a NY Yankee fan, but my best buddy a Red Sox fan. Little more disparagement could be handed out than what we do to each other when at a game together.

Further proof that Washington was a conservative right wing, racist, fascist and had no business being president. Thank goodness we are done with him and can rely on the bidens, peloosi's, aoc's and assorted socialists. We need to purge his name, and all writings and sayings from our records in accordance with with directives from our red russian inspired commie masters.

Socialism is a term that is often misused. Socialism is an economic scheme in which the population collectively own the means of production. BUT even under your misunderstood definition of the term. socialism is not an evil. Jesus was perhaps the original socialist. He healed the sick, he fed the poor and he asked for nothing in return. Is it in your morality to do less?

Let the discussion begin--but please respect my right to my beliefs just as I respect your right to yours. Judge my beliefs , not my person, No name calling. Convince me with words and logic, not vitipritude.

You may not AGREE with the Democrats, but they have tried to be tactful and courteous in their disagreement with the vitriol expressed by your cult leader.

Where have you been in recent months? The Democrats, you say, are tactful and courteous? Really? Well, do you remember these recent events? ... and this is just a sampling of recent activity by Democrats.

1. Democrats in Congress tried (unsuccessfully) to take down then Judge Kavanaugh, calling him all sorts of names, and accusing him of rape without any proof. Any why, because he was nominated by Trump.

2. President Trump's (former) press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was refused service and told to leave a restaurant in Virginia on moral grounds.

3. Former Florida Attorney General, Pam Bondi attempted to attend a screening of the Mister Rogers documentary. Maria José Chapa, a labor organizer, can be heard in a video yelling to Bondi "Shame on you!" "You're a horrible person!" another protester shouts.

4. Eric Trump, son of President Donald Trump, was spat on by an employee at a Chicago-area restaurant. Eric Trump did the tactful and courteous thing by not retaliating, and by not pressing charges.

5. Covington Catholic student Nick Sandmann, wearing a MAGA hat in front of Nathan Phillips, was demeaned by the liberal news media, trying to make the encounter his fault, and trying to bash anyone who wore a MAGA hat. Savannah Guthrie, NBC 'Today' Host: "Do you feel that you owe anybody an apology? Do you see your own faults in any way?"

6. Just this week, a conservative journalist, Andy Ngo, was attacked in Portland, OR, by an ANTIFA group wearing masks and black clothing. Ngo suffered a blunt force injury to the back of his head and was punched repeatedly in the face, leaving a bloody mess to his face. Is this tactful and courteous?

7. Rep. Maxine Waters during a speech at a Capitol Hill told her supporters that Democrats should harass (get in their faces) cabinet members and highly visible Trump people at restaurants, gas stations, shopping places, and even their homes. From all of the above, we see that this tactic is being implemented.

8. Democrats in Congress have called President Trump every "...ist" name under the sun, and all without any proof or justification. Any why? Because Democrats cannot win on policy or results, so they try to win on name-calling. And yes, President Trump is a back fighter...you attack him, and you can expect likewise in return. The Democrats goal is impeachment, and anything goes that supports that goal.

So, to the Democrat Party, anyone who supports President Trump is evil, and must be destroyed. So please, let's all remember President George Washington's "Rules of Civility & Decent Behavior."

I doubt much of what you say is true. Fake news. Even if some is true compare it to the way you people treat the press, etc. No contest. You guys are far more mean as a group than the few isolated Democrats are. You guys killed a girl at Charlottesville. I guess you forgot all about that. More civility from Dems, by far. But, you cannot expect that to last with the bellicose and antagonistic things you and your cult leader say and tweet.
