I stopped using in camera formatting a while ago when I discovered this:

https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/

That article has nothing to do with formatting sd cards in camera, which is the recommended way to do it by all camera manufacturers that I know of. The article is talking about formatting said cards on operating systems, on computers.

Lately, I've been formatting my SD cards through the Menu of my D750. It seems faster, and it's easier to read. With the red buttons, it seems iffy, and selecting card 1 or card 2 makes me read tiny letters. Do any of you use the Menu system to format. Aside from Nikon, I don't know of other cameras that have buttons to format cards.

Using the menu system is the recommended way to format sd cards in all cameras that I know of. This is really old news, which has been discussed on this site many times.

Hi Jerry . . . to my knowledge, all cameras allow formatting from within . . . and it is highly recommended. Can't say about the latest versions, but we were always advised that formatting in one camera and using the card in another could cause card errors, so when we went out to shoot a wedding we had our formatted cards designated to each particular camera.

I think this discussion is only about in-camera formatting via the menu or shortcut buttons, when available.

For general computer use, or stuff like music/document files.
Camera use is a specialized use.
The camera (manufacturer) may need <additional> things a certain way on a card.

...red buttons for me...then I bought a Z6 and they took that away. So, on *that* camera formatting is the top entry in that handy-dandy "My Menu"...

I forgot Jerry since I had my last Nikon D800.
I like Sony you have to go through the menu system to format
It displays the time it took and warns you about erasing the card.
That said the Sony's menu's designer must have been drinking
sake. Tom

On my Nikon D850, I've can configure the "Fn2" -> My Menu to include the "Format memory card" option. Not much faster, but available. Personally, I'm nevery in a big hurry to re-format a memory card.

i also use Canon. The menu defaults to the last operation used and, since format is the most frequently used menu item for me, it is usually already on format.

With Canon, at least for the cameras I've had, there's also a menu favorites section of the menu system. I put Format there (in addition to its normal place in the menu structure) to make it easier to find.

Jerry, I've used the menu system to format since day one with a digital.

That's what I'm talking about . . . in-camera formatting.

I format thru the menu system on my D7100 and D7200. First slot 1 then slot 2.

Yep. Many respond with with stuff that's not germane to the original post.
