Thank You Guys.
You've made good points.
I'll be selling my f4 and getting
the new 500mm PF by around
Christmas. I'm 70 and lugging
around my f4 is starting to be
out of my capacity.

Where the f4 aperture comes in handy is for fast/accurate AF in lower light and for throwing the back round out of focus when shooting large animals (at some distance) like moose, bear, elk. Bison ect ......f4 is also more conducive to shooting in the lower light of the higher latitudes.

With today's high speed low noise DSLR's F5.6 is very good and can do the same as the F4. One stop does not make that a big a difference for the seasoned photographer. My 500 5.6 can thrown the back ground out as well as my f4 did. I owned them both so I should know.

Congratulations! I'm curious to know who you ordered it from. I ordered one myself about three months ago from B&H. They keep sending me notices that it's still on back order.

I ordered one on Amazon a month or so ago and got notice today that it is arriving next week. Perhaps yours will arrive soon, too.

I too have this wonderful glass. Got it at the end of December, I used it this past spring in Florida's wetlands. My review is posted on the B&H site.
I have this lens mounted on my D850 and the 200-500 is mounted on my D500, these two combo's can handle anything that wildlife can throw at me here in Florida.
I do have the D5 battery in my D850, needed the 9 fps.
Good luck to you, you have made a great choice.

A question to you. I also have the 200-500. These days I'm only using the D500 for wildlife. My other camera in use for almost anything else is the Z7. Should I consider selling my 200-500 once I determine, of course, that I like the new lens. I cannot see putting the 200-500 on the Z7, the autofocus system is way too slow for fast subjects (but really great for all other types of shots). So, what is your opinion?

Sue is great. I trained her son on painting cars.
