Photomatix is, in my mind, the most adjustable of them. You set it the way you want it.

Here's your image run though Photomatrix. I used the better single image. Not to bad I'd say. You must have done something drastically wrong.

I don't use HDR Pro, so can't really help you with that particular program. I wanted to see if it could be processed with other HDR processing software with good results and it can.

Don’t know ‘cause I don’t use PS but you took a pretty shot
Nice comp and color.
Looks like PS and Aurora HD et al, do a nice job (if done right) 😀
Keep trying, check you tube videos, and you’ll get it👍

I use Aurora for single images also and like the result.
I downloaded both of your photos and ran them through Photolemur, which is a little program I found that is very inexpensive, does a nice job in most cases, and quick. I did not combine the photos in any way. Here are the results…
This turned into a bunch of smart a-- not trying to be helpful, Too bad
Just took the one darker photo and used a combination of NX2, ON1, PSE6 and came up with the attached. I did crop it to 8x10 size.
