prior post suggested AFFINITY photo for stacking. The AFFINITY site leads to multiple site with free download each of which looks a lot like Lightroom. I am suspicious of "free" sites. Is this a legitimate site that other UGHH have used and found to be useful?
You should be able to post a link by now, although if you post one originally in the Main section, it will get moved.
Free sites can be a trap, but they also me free, helpful sites.
Affinity Photo is not free, they probably offer a free trial like most other software.
I've never heard of using Affinity for focus stacking but it may have that capability.
If you are serious about focus stacking look at Zerene Stacker and Helicon Focus.
Both offer free trials and are the most popular stacking software packages.
I use Helicon. Good program. Affinity is a lot like PS. I would assume you could use it to stack as you would use PS, but Helicon is a very quick and easy way to do it.
When I got back into photography about a year ago (I'm from the film and brass & glass days), I looked at probably 5 or 6 free trial software programs. I settled on Affinity Photo because of price and it was pretty simple to learn. I have used it to focus stack. They call it "merge." The first one I did had 5 photos stacked up and the most photos I did was 44. Quick and easy (of corse I don't have experience with any other PP programs so I assume it's quick and easy).

The only place to download is
https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/photo/Click the MENU button and then Affinity Photo.
Right now (thru today) it is 20% off which makes Affinity Photo $39.99. And they have free updates.

Affinity is on sale right now for about $39.00 and no charge for upgrades. It does regular stacking, focus stacking, HDR stacking and stitching.
I am amazed by how many people give advice who have never used the product in question and suggest other apps even when the op did not ask for it. At least you answered the question about free sw.

There are many "mimic" sites with similar makes to known brands. Those sites exploit the name of the brand for some shady purposes. Beware of those.

I have used Affinity Photo for a couple of years and never encountered anything remotely like this when going to the Affinity website. As others have stated, Affinity is not a free program but does have a free trial period. It has no association with Lightroom and is a full featured, stand alone photo editing program. I believe the 20% off sale expired yesterday. The $50 fee is a one time charge and includes all future updates. I have found it easier to learn than Adobe Lightroom or Elements (have tried them both) and it does do a very nice job of focus stacking, or merge as they call it. However, it does not have a storage/organizing feature like LR.
