Hey all!! New member here and this is my 1st post!!

I found 8 rolls of unused film in an old camera bag. The film has to be at least 10 yrs. old. It has been on a shelf in the closet @ room temp all of this time.

Should I try it or not waste my time and toss it?

Cool site here.

I've developed old film with good results. Skip the prints and get them as jpeg on CD to save a few dollars.

I've got lots of old 120 roll film. But I keep mine in a freezer. Stored in a closet for 10 years? I would probably toss it. Or expose one roll and have it developed as a test.

You didn’t mention the type, but I’d certainly toss it if it was color. New film is not that expensive and why compromise precious shots with likely faded dyes. Now if it had been kept refrigerated, that would be a different story. Just my personal opinion.

From my experience, if the film is either black & white or C-41 and below 800 ASA, it is most likely still usable. If C-41, maybe give it an extra 1/2 to 1 stop extra exposure during shooting... with color negative film older than 10 years, it is better to slightly over-expose than under-expose to avoid greenish tinted shadows. I recommend doing one test roll first. That way you can precede with confidence.

If they were exposed I would have them developed but if they are unexposed I would toss them. You can sell them to some guys who love expired films.

The answer to almost all questions in life: "It depends". Color film likely would not be good - and Kodachrome can no longer be developed anywhere. Probably not really worth using it.

Eight rolls of old film that up to now you didn't know you had ... Do you need the few dollars you might get? My suggestion is to throw them out - you won't miss them.

What could it hurt to shoot around your house/ neighborhood this afternoon and process, negs only for checking it out? You might like the look, it might be that all are fine. For $6.00 processing cost, you may find you have $70 of film waiting for you to shoot!
