I just got back from dialysis, $350 and I'll throw in my 1Ti backup, w/battery grip and four batteries plus 18-55 kit. Granted a step backwards but it does retain the reliable "Basic Zone" settings

If you have long exposure noise reduction turned on, I believe this would create the same problem. Check that first under C. fn II.
Great information. I am making baby step progress with Citrus Sybil (named due to the multiple personalities exhibited). I haven't had a chance to get higher speed card since I had to focus on work but hope to try new card this weekend. If I cannot master in a few weeks, I may take one of you up on the offer. Right now we have a very volatile relationship and she is in constant danger. Maybe she is highstrung from stress. :-)
just remember its just a tool like anyother a typewriter a cooking stove a car in time with a little patience and fortitude a few tantrums and ahhh sh ts You get better just human bites

This sounds like a very interesting problem. I just don't think you have provided enough information for us to help. I can think of a dozen questions that have not been asked here. I'd have to write a list but don't have the time. I like some of what I've read here though. Format the card. Do a reset on the 7D back to default settings. If you are shooting in single shot, the camera will not shoot an image unless the focus is confirmed by the 7D processor. Shoot in AF Servo mode when shooting anything that might move. Enable all the focus point. At least 2 don't come enabled by Canon. Stay away from the 19 point focus system and such. Use the spot, point, or the one with a point in the middle of 4. If none of this works, send it to Canon or I'll give you $500 for it so that you don't throw it in the river. LOL

I tried everything and the camera went back to Canon. I now have a brand new Canon EOS 7D that is working. It is amazing the difference. I am now the PROUD owner of a Canos EOS 7D instead of a "words that cannot be mentioned on this forum" owner. As frustrating as the experience has been, you guys have been great and I have learned a lot through the experience that I otherwise would not have learned. I really appreciate everyone attempting to help me with the problem. The advice will be put to good use with the new and improved functioning camera. I understand a little more about things that once baffled me - and realize even more that I am only scratching the surface of the vastness of photography knowledge! Oh Great Ones I am here to learn. Keep the tips coming. And thank goodness for warranties.

I have a 7D andhad a similar situation photographing a sunrise at the Grand Tetons. It seemed that in low light situations there wasn't enough light for the auto focus to lock on to the subject and kept ranging to find it, which took some time, hence, "busy". When I took it out of auto focus and went to manual focus the problem disappeared...instant shots one after another. At least that's what worked for me. Good luck, and good shooting.
That definitely helps with the new camera. Thanks.
