Yesterday I learned the difference between perception and reality.
I was at the CineGear Expo at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, and got to hold and use the new Fuji GFX100 100 Mp medium format camera. It has an integral vertical grip much like the Nikon D5 body. No top mounted controls but a really nice LCD screen that allows extensive customization.
The vertical grip has generated a lot of whinny opinions from YouTube photographer reviewers, Matt Granger, Tony Northrop and Jared Polllin because of its grey plastic construction that is assumed to be uncomfortable to hold. I found the exact opposite, could grip the body easily and the controls were readily at hand.
If I was fully into the Fuji system, and had $10,000, this would be an amazing camera.
...can you rent it...? How nice would it be to try it out in the Arizona desert or in Yosemite...a man could dream...

I am thinking that by July-August, there will be enough in the rental pipeline to get one for a while.
Lets be realistic you're looking at $20,000 for a decent system, you can assemble a full-frame system for 40% of the price:
Sony aA7RIII - $2598
Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Lens - $2198
Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens - $2598
Sony FE 2.0x Teleconverter - $548
This is not an exact comparison either, most of the Fuji lenses are f3.2 (35mm equivalent).
I think the medium format market needs to mature and Fuji is making tremendous strides leaving Leica,Hssselblad etc in the dust.

Based upon a financial metric, the same can be said for any system less expensive than FF as well. For some, the financial investment is but one component of the decision. Each to their own. The new Fuji is a fabulous kit, as are many “lesser” systems.

Yes. The uncompressed RAW files are 200 Mb in size. Compared to 46 Mb for a Nikon D850 full frame. And yes, I agree with Matt Grainger, you are looking at a $20000+ investment.
A camera system is a tool, if it does what you need and can afford it, get it. $20,000 is a lot of money, for me at least, but not unreasonable for a leading edge medium format camera. Don't compare it to the Nikon, compare it to the Hasselblad or the PhaseOne and it may seem like a "bargain".
