Corrupt CR2 files

Hello Hoggers ,this is the first time I've needed your help, I placed my SD card in the reader and it appeared in 2 places in file explorer, I opened the first and it opened normally so I copied them to a folder and opened them in DPP4 , all but the first file could not be imported, I put the card back in the camera and none of the files would display, though I had seen at least half of the files on my LCD yesterday, my camera is a 6D with Sandisk 32 gb Extreme Pro.Any suggestion on recovering or repairing these files ?

Your memory card is failing. Corrupted files means that errors occurred when writing to the memory. Throw it in the recycling bin.

Thanks , just had a techie friend over and he thinks the card is bad even though it continues to work, these were some precious photos of good friends we hadn't seen for several years.

Good News ! As I was browsing for a new card I found that Sandisk provides file recovery software, I downloaded Rescue Pro Deluxe using the coupon still in the box and an hour later all photo files were restored, unfortunately the video files may be lost but many thanks to Sandisk!

Oh good and glad you could salvage some of your work. Thank you for the update on these cards and their retrievals.

There are recovery programs that you can try. I've used them to recover files from a formatted card so it may find yours.

How often do you format your memory cards? I format mine in the camera every time after downloading the images to my computer. I have never had a card failure but I do replace them every few years.

I reformat every time after downloading. I have some Lexar CF cards that are, my goodness, 10 years old.

I do the same. I have never had a card failure. I've had some of my cards for over 5 years but I only use those in my oldest bodies.
