I was out riding with my cousin and his wife, when he told me there was a mill nearby that he thought I'd be interested in. We went there and I took about 10 exterior shots. My favorite was this shot of the entire mill:

Excellent captures.
Don't feel regrets about the latter photograph. With the first in place, the latter has more emphasis. Try using a sepia toned composition when displaying them both.
Perhaps, one in color and the other in sepia. You can make a very powerful statement.

Just remember, regrets are for cowards.

They are both excellent captures!
Happy Shooting!

The first image is still a great catch all the same and you are right about doing stuff when it's fresh and available cause tomorrow may not be.

It's like seeing something at Costco. If you like whatever it is, you'd be well advised to buy it now. It's likely not to be there next time if you wait.

One thing I learned using my Olympus SLR in the 80's as a real newbie: always turn 180 degrees and see what the view is behind you; often it's a great shot. Glad you didn't try to enter; it looks hazardous.

I just looked at the interior of this old mill, and your photos are wonderful, and very interesting.
My question though, is what was the mill's purpose when it was built?

I've received so many really nice comments, that I thought I'd post a couple more shots of the barn as it appeared the day I first saw it.

I'm not sure what kind of mill this was. Funny, but it never occurred to me to ask that question. Duh!

We just watched Second Hand Lions again with Robert Duvall and the mill looks somewhat like the ramshackle house in the movie.
Now "that" was a tear-jerker, good feeling movie!!
