I had to post these pics.. of a hedgehog
My friend has a hedgehog for a pet.
She is "quilled up", because of strange noises in the house.

OP says his friend has it as a pet...........
Such a shame to have them as pets, I have about 10 visit my garden and some stay the day in the houses I built for them. There are 2 at the moment, both in one box, they can roam up to 4 miles a night and have homes in lots of places...
Keeping a wild animal as a "pet" is a complete injustice.
Do your research before you start rendering your personal judgements. Two minutes on Google found many articles and sites referring to domesticated Hedgehogs.
You have the right to an opinion, but correct your ignorance before you start passing judgement.
That's one of the not-ugly ones. : )
I agree that animals in the wild should remain in the wild unless they need care or rehabilitation so that they can be returned to the wild. Some however are unable to be returned so they must continue to be cared for.
Some have been generations removed from the wild so they would not fair well if released for they would miss the nurturing and training that their family units in the wild provide. Generations of "bred in captivity" animals continue to depend on their caretakers for they have no hunting, survival, threat awareness or social skills.
Perhaps this adorable creature may be one of those and hopefully no one snatched it out of the wild.

Domesticated hedgehogs must have started from wild ones, do these "domesticated ones get the food that they would in the wild like worms ,slugs and other insects that we do not know they eat or are they fed on food that is manufactured like the food that is made for most animals that are captive. This is why my dogs are fed a variety of raw food including veg, rabbit and chicken including the bones which is what the wild dogs eat...
I like a pet I can "pet". I have cats.

My wife has two, but we don't have them; they have us. They merely allow us to live in 'their' house because they have no thumbs to pull the lids off the cat food cans.
I didn't post the pics to start a word war about the ethics of keeping pets. I posted these pics on the General Photography section (Admin moved it to General) because the name of the photography blog is The Ugly Hedgehog. Get it?
