One of the activity choices on our tour was horseback riding at Laguna Sophia. The lagoon is located 30km northeast of Puerto Natales and offers beautiful views of the landscapes and the surrounding mountains – such as “Tenerife” which looks like a volcano. I have never ridden a horse much less used one as a photography platform. Our guide assured us that this was a very easy ride on very gentle horses and a great way to see the landscape. Much credit goes to the gauchos at Pingo Salvaje who accompanied us. I debated whether to just take a small point and shoot but then memories flooded back of the Cowboy and Indian movies of my youth. If they could fire Winchesters and long bows and arrows at full gallop, I could certainly fire my D7200 on a slow walk. I set the speed at 1/640 to offset shake with the 18-300 at f9. Fortunately I have the arm strength to hold the camera one handed while gripping the reins tightly in my other hand. The last photo was taken by my wife with her iPhone after she dismounted. Unfortunately there are none of me actively shooting. I hope you enjoy the series.

Nice photos. That's beautiful country. There are so many beautiful places in the world but I still choose the United States over all other places to live.

I agree. There's a lot more to consider than beauty when choosing a place to call home. And the U.S. has enough beauty to last a life time.

Thanks for commenting Chief.
All foregrounds significantly underexposed as presented. Why?

Nice photos, Mark.. It looks like a beautiful place.
Nice shots. Healthy horses. Expected to see Roy and Gene roaming around there somewhere.
Have been enjoying your Patagonia posts. What great country. Many thanks for the opportunity to see a place I will never be able to visit.

From one who has viewed the world from "between the ears" for many years, well done.
