I haven't found much that like in using extreme wide angle lenses for astrophotography. They tend to distort in the corners. And they don't gather much light. For example, a 10mm lens at f2.8 would only be an aperture size of 3.6mm which is rather small, and not collect much light.
They also pickup every tree and rooftop, and light source, all around them.
My fisheyes have no problem gathering light....but you are correct on the fisheye distortion that is present in all fisheyes ...I personally wouldn't waste a clear night of imaging dickering around with them.
They are good for pics like this - taken before ACC BB tournament....and weddings. During a reception I will use two cameras both with fisheyes walking around firing both randomly at people and things without looking through the view finder........you get a lot of crazy photos...most are worthless but a few are wicked good. They end up being some of the brides favorites. But that is when we were doing weddings - nada mas!
