My dad’s wife’s son sold a rare Leica on eBay for $15,000 to a collector in Japan. My dad’s wife bought it at a yard sale with some lenses I believe for $65. I believe it was one of 220 or so made perhaps before WWII in all black finish. The current owner intends to donate it to a museum eventually I believe.

The ONLY time I looked close at a Hybrid Car - it was one of these HUGE SUVs (can't remember which one it was) GMC, I think, and the dealer pushed forward the driver's seat, and lifted a flap on the floor - to show me there were SIX regular car batteries - placed side-by-side and end to end - under the flap. Once the car was on the highway, the batteries would take over from the gas (they started the car going, too) and the mileage would level off from 22mpg (on gas) to ZILCH! … almost made you want to lay out the 30 grand!!! Only thing is - the damned thing was so high off the ground - would've had a devil of a time getting IN the ruddy thing!!!! … You win some - you lose some - what can I say? …

I was kidding you a little on the fridge making your cocktail … but the computers in the doors are all the rage now. … Didn't mean to step on your toes about the home-brewed beer … very interesting hobby!!! … I don't drink, tho', OR do the all-night Playboy TV thing!!!! I only have FREE TV - no Playboy … awwww!!!

I don’t know if he donated it yet and it may be more valuable when he does so he might get a nice tax write off too...

Ah, yes - the tax write-off thing. Are you sure they even HAVE that in Japan, Todd?

Who's got the adapter you'd need for attaching that lens to the GFX, tho', Karno?

Oh, okay … just for Sigma?

Or - do they have ones for the GFX, for Tamron, Tokina, Canon, Nikon, Sony and Pentax, too?

Ah, I see … my DSLRs include 5 Nikons, 3 Canons, 3 Sony, and a Pentax …

And my lenses include Nikkor, Canon, Sony, Pentax, Tamron, Tokina and Sigma …

So, I guess I'd need quite a few Fotodiox adapters for the Fuji GFX 50R - huh, Karno?

I knew you were and I was ribbing you back.

At 6'2" I wasn't really sold on the Civic at first. Found out I could fit in it quite well and I didn't mind 45mpg in the city and 54mpg+ on the freeway. Only real downer was the seat angle which angled up and after driving for extended periods gave me horrible pains.

Anywho I have no lack of $$$ hungry hobbies and photography is right up near the top of the list. But I don't think I'm gonna be investing in a mirrorless anytime soon. I remember my grandfather's TLR cameras well as his large format cameras, and the awe they held for me as a child, as well as my Brownies and instamatics but I don't know if I could take a picture without the feel of the sliding mirror and the thunk of it fully out of the way or landing back down.

Oh, I see … so you don't brew beer at home, then … oh, okay …

That's funny … I used to build my own PCs here at home (made a dozen, or more, now) - they call those - Home-Brews - in the computer world. And, when I've mentioned that before - conveniently forgetting this is a PHOTOGRAPHY site, and NOT a COMPUTER site - I think some folks got the wrong idea, here. No, I don't brew beer at home, either. Actually, I don't even LIKE beer, at all. I much prefer cider, and things of that ilk. Most of the time, I drink Herb Tea, though, Bitt. … Yes, I agree with you - there's something REALLY assuring about hearing the mirror, click up out of the way, and back down, again - for viewing of the next image. That sound has been omnipresent in cameras, ever since the first SLRs appeared, in the early 50s, and luckily - the DSLR has continued that trend, where the SLR left off, but the MILC does away with that reassuring slap, doesn't it? … I suppose the MILC industry could supply a phony one, like some of the bridge-makers do … but, you always know when it's just a put-on sound - don't you? It's only MIRROR-SLAP - which assures us we've just taken a picture. Personally, I wouldn't have it any other way!

There was another Honda … no, maybe it was a Nissan, or a Toyota - anyway - one of those. I don't remember, now, which one - but one of those three brands - had a really sporty model I was keen on - no - not the Datsun Z, but a coupe - in that vein. Forget now, which one it was. But, I was determined to find me one, for a while. Now, I don't have the height problem you have, but I do have somewhat of a breadth problem. And I never realized how awkward, it would be - for someone of my size - to get into a small car like that - you have to sort of bend yourself into a "Z" more or less - BEFORE you can even slide INTO a car that small. I was even prepared to do it, in order to have that car, but after I tried it, one day - about a half-dozen times - in an empty lot - I just gave up - actually surrendering to the idea - that car - was not for me. Then, later - when I got used to the idea of mini-vans - big enough for me, AND - giving plenty of room for my dog to run around - I went to see a Previa on a cold day, on which I had to wear my sheepskin jacket - a pretty bulky garment, and when I went to pull the door closed on myself - it wouldn't close completely - no matter how much I squirmed around - so, I finally did my test drive, actually holding it closed against my body with my left hand. After that experience, I bought an American-made mini-van … I'd had quite enough experiences with cars and vans made for Asian people - that was it!

They split the $15k I believe. I don’t know the tax laws of Japan or where else the buyer may have financial interests. But I assume there is probably some benefit to making a donation.
