I find it difficult to fathom that I am the only one watching the Game of thrones but if so, so be it, it is nice to see I am not the only one eyeballing GFX,
My satire of watching HBO on a 100mp mirrorless camera is hilarious to me. For now I will watch it upon a regular so called smart tv ,and take my images on a separate device (dslr)

Ah, I see … well, I don't HAVE HBO, Karno … as I don't believe in paying for something you can get free!

But, I was aware of the Game of Thrones as a video game - just didn't know it was now a TV show, too.

Yes - the only thing I fully understood in the entire thing, Karno - is your reference to the fine Fuji GFX line of MF MILCs. The 50S … is a little too heavy for me, pricewise, at $6500 (same price as the D5) but, anyone considering the D5 - would be NUTS not to consider the 50S instead. But, I have been looking longingly at the 50R … which, I believe - is more attainable (for me) and, of course, if price is no object - go for the 100MP version, when it's available - why not? … It's only ten grand. A 100MP Hassy would cost you 5 or 6 TIMES that much!!!! … But, tell me - how does watching this show on HBO - become more entertaining, looking at it through the EVF of a GFX, Karno? Tell us … we ALL want to know ….

Think about it, folks … ALL Fuji APS-C models, ALL MFT models, ALL Sony FF models, and half of their APS-C models, and now - two FF models from each - Nikon, and Canon … is the road ahead, pretty clear, now?

Why is this boring and redundant question even being brought up?

There were cars in the 1800s. They were steam driven not gas but they existed. There were even electric cars (more than internal combustion engine powered) for a while.

There was also a/c, you just had to chop the ice and store it yourself of have enough $$ to afford to by some.

As to personal entertainment they seemed to find plenty of activities to while away the hours with only a few that might eventually lead to needing a physician visit. 😉

On the value of a 100MP GFX vs. 100MP Hassy? … You'll get no argument from me THERE, Karno …

But, please DO answer the last part - k?

Actually, out of FIVE posts put up by me, last evening - THIS ONE - has proven to be the MOST interesting!

Now, you see, Bitt?

It's called EVOLUTION … 135 or so - YEARS of it. Now, we have - electric cars which go 40mph, Hybrid cars - which go twice that speed - and on batteries, once they get going with gas; plus fridges which make your drinks, practically, AND allow you to check your Stock Market on a computer built into the door, whilst you wait for your cocktail to be delivered ( ) and, all night long Playboy on TV

You can run a car on compressed air. I believe that there was a company in India doing that not too long ago. But each time you convert from one form of energy to another you are losing energy...

For sure!
In my satirical world I would have the best of both worlds, for instance the ability to watch GOT on a GFX 100 in 16 bit.
Point being, I am more then happy with DSLR but also welcome new tech.

IF anything kills the DSLR it will be manufacturing costs and a declining market. Larger mounts may enable "better" (whatever that means) lenses, the touted reduction in weight will be offset by larger lenses, and in the end, you get image files that will be mostly indistinguishable between traditional DSLRs and mirrorless alternatives. Other than Panasonic, Olympus and Fuji, camera manufacturers are in the beginning steps of the "mirrorless revolution", and it remains to be seen how their product lines emerge. Market forces - and the continuously improving smart phones - will be major factors, not technology.

IMO They’re all ILC’s. Some with mirror, some without. By the time the DSLR dies there will be something to begin to replace the MILC. This is technology, good stuff and because of it we have state of the art products today. Let’s enjoy them till the very end!!

Right you are. Which is why Leicas ceased to be produced when Exaktas were introduced in the 1930s.

Look: Nobody has produced a mirrorless camera that does what an SLR does. Mirrorless is slower to focus, more vulnerable to contamination, and not professional quality for many news and sports assignments. In theory the mirrorless should be superior, but nobody has gotten it there yet.

I have sitting on my shelf here a camera that in 1964 cost the same as a new Nikon F. It is a Kodak Instamatic 800. Has a nice rangefinder, a built-in AG1 flash, a lovely 38mm f2.8 Ektanar, loads really quickly, and even has a motor drive. It's solidly made. I picked it up in mint condition a decade ago at a thrift shop for $3. No one ever got a mint Nikon F for $3. And for as long as film was in use, the Nikon F remained a workhorse camera.

Point is, there will always be people who will chase whatever the next big thing is in photography, and that's fine. Keeps camera companies in business.

But there will always be photographers, too.

There were electric cars capable of 65mph+ in the 1800s and in fact held the land speed record until the petrol based vehicles were able to get their feet under them. And I'm well versed in modern hybrid cars as I recently got rid of my 2006 Honda Civic hybrid as I couldn't afford the replacement of the hybrid battery and the dealer really didn't want to do it.

As a long time homebrewer that specializes in ales (Belgian, British & American styles) I don't need no steenkin' fridge anywhere near my beverages tyvm. When I need to check my stocks I check the carboys and lagering closet.

Ah, I see … so you'd actually watch it on the screen of the GFX - rather than on TV … zat what you mean?

Hey, listen - if I could spare ten grand, I'd put myself on the waiting list for the Fuji GFX100S .. no sweat!

TODD - I converted from Oil-Fired Heat to Gas Heat - back in 2013 … best decision I EVER made. Now, there's no oil smell - no grubby oil men pushing past my clothes rack every other month with buckets of used oil … PLUS - as an added bonus, NOW - I have built-in A/C!!!! Never lost a minute of sleep over it!!!

AND NEVER - have I lost energy over it, either!!!!

GWAN, Dep … Leicas ceased to be produced??? … Leica started in 1849 in Germany. Had no idea, they ever stopped producing, at ANY TIME - since then. They're still producing, today. Currently, there are some six or seven models - the M10, the M, the M-P, the M Mono, the SL, and the TL2, and the MF S.

You can get some amazing deals, Dep - at both thrift shops, and at Tag Sales, too. Nobody seems to have ANY idea what old cameras might be worth, today. Everyone NOT in the Photo World - thinks everyone uses Cell-Phones to shoot pics, today. But, hey, let's face it - if it uses film, it's essentially - a dead item!

Yes, you're right there, Dep … there will ALWAYS - BE - Photographers!!! … Hallelujah!!!
