Date Line: Portsmouth, England, Central to England’s maritime past, Portsmouth has been a navel port for centuries. This prestigious city is home to some to such historic vessels as Henry’s Tudor battleship “Mary Rose and Lord Nelson’s HMS Victory, the world’s oldest navel ship still in commission. The only island-city in the United Kingdom, Portsmouth has been settled since before the Roman Empire. It grew into a medieval port town, bringing in wine and other goods from France. More recently this was the embarkation port for D-Day endings and served as headquarters for Dwight D. Eisenhower.

That horizon is a hilltop and isn't level (try looking at the verticals some time)

I thought we were a bit closer than that to the States.

ELY (Cambridgeshire) is both a CITY and on an ISLAND. However the Island is no longer an Island due to drainage of the surrounding fells. City status was granted in 1974 but it has been referred to as a City for much longer because it has a cathederal.
