Beautiful set, Jim. Thanks for sharing your photos.
Clever & brilliant composition.
The last one was a standout image.

As I was looking at the first photo my eyes were drawn to the house/shed in the background and I wondered what if that had been taken from the opposite direction what would have been the results? Then I got my answer in photo three. Like the front of the windmill and more inclusion of the watering trough. Like them both but three is my favorite. Fine job.
Thank you Jim for the whole group! Good lighting and composition.
I wonder, who was Dan Dubinky? Some local bad guy?
The sign doesn't say anything about him or why the well got his name?

I fibbed a little with that 'Dangerous Dan Dubinky' part, Paul. Fact is, Dubinky was the first name of one of two brothers --who together were 'them Anderson boys'-- who cattle ranched in that desolate area in the 1930's. Their 'cabin' (a crude structure made of railroad ties and barbed wire) still (sort of) stands, hidden from view, a quarter mile away. Apparently, since Dubinky had never been
convicted of cow stealin' or murderin' or even public drunkenness or cheatin' at cards, some pointy-headed East Coast CCC guy likely decided to name the well after him for having been as upstanding a citizen as anybody was at the time, or more likely, for having such a funny first name. I mean, how interesting would it have been if it had just been named the 'Anderson Well'?
There is, of course, the story about the brothers refusing to stay at the hotel over in Valley City (hotel, you ask? in Valley City??? whoa! whole 'nuther story there!) because they heard it was haunted.

"Dubinky Well and windmill were built in 1937...." Well, the signage says it better than I would've. But it leaves out the part about 'Dangerous Dan Dubinky.' Wonder why that was?
Excellent series, especially your first image. Thanks for sharing.
