My mom/ new grandma stopped by over the weekend on a dreary afternoon so the natural colors were a little on the cool side, but at one point, sitting in front of the window, I noticed my 2-month-old peacefully passed out on Gramma's chest. I took a snap, softened it a bit and warmed it up, and I have to admit I really like it. Interestingly, reception to it on IG and the socials has been a little more tepid than I would have expected. Not to say I'm hunting for likes (I'm really not, honest) but I expected a little more response - people generally love babies after all 
My first instinct is that I overdid the PP a little. I'm getting back in to the post-processing thing after a few years out so I feel like I'm still getting my eye back. What are the group thoughts on the before and after?

Wonderful image. IMHO, not over cooked. You obviously captured the emotion of the moment! I might have lightened/brightened it a bit but that just mt preference.

I'm no expert but the original is the one I prefer. Even with Grandmas face a little dark the babies face is bright and stands out, which I think Grandma would like. In my opinion some cropping to emphasize the two subjects would improve things.

I like the look of the original better. It appears that the White Balance is off in the second shot and the baby gets lost in the similar colors of his top and the towel. Bring the focus back to the baby with some selective lightening.

Nikonnate Im' not very good at judging ,but would probably help to be able to download "out of camera" also, I prefer this over the PP, because the colors blending in with the background and I like the highlights on your son's face better, draws the eyes to your child and still maintain the softness of your Mom. From what you've you have made available here it look like upper right corner of window is almost maxed out. I would try darkening over all just a tad and crop behind your mother's shoulder at frame of window. Just my 2 cents worth. If you post the out of camera I will gladly take and send it back to you of what I'm referring to. Bob

Nice shot. But I would crop out the window in background, it is distracting to me.
My eyes want to go there instead of the main subject, being the baby.

I also prefer the out of camera image. About cropping out the window, to me not that distracting and to crop it out would completely would then loose part of main subject. May be you could use fill to reduce the window.

I really like the aged photo effect you achieved - it could be brightened a bit and, like one of the other commentators, I would crop out the window and the grey part of its frame to eliminate that distraction and simplify the background. It's a lovely shot.

The center of attraction here is the darling sleeping baby .., not the grandma or the surroundings .... nothing else needs focused on but the baby .... and what a baby ... I’ll have to send this in to GERBER

Not overcooked at all. It is sharper than the original. If clarity is what you are after, you nailed it. If "mushy" is desired, it could have been less processed for contrast. As a judge, I would pick your processed over the original, which is not technically special and a bit of a cliche. Good job.

artBob ..,thnx .. I did a quick;y on the IpadPro just as a sample direction to take .. had I been doing the picture editing professionally for the photographer .. I would have pulled out my MacBook Pro ..
Had I been the photographer with my D850 .., I would have .... anyway .. it is a warm and touching shot executed on the fly by the photographer .. that’s what counts ..
I did like that he used a 50mm 1.8 with his D850 .. some days I use my 50mm 1.8 on my D850 for the entire day and pretend it is the only lens I have ...

Like everyone else, I'm no judge but I feel your PP is big improvement over the original shot. Don't think it's overcooked at all. What I thought was interesting was how many folks liked the first shot. Lots of opinions and interpretations. What a good capture is supposed to do. MM
