I also have LR Classic CC but I was working outside of LR to resize some TIFF files that I was afraid I had lost. I then copied them into the external HD where LR Classic CC stores my images. I then imported them into LR.

It's all rather complex and confusing but it's all working now. The images are once more safely stored within my copy of LR.

BTW, I'm going to have these two images printed 16 inches wide. The hummingbirds will be returning soon and I will be using the images as backgrounds to make photos like the last one below.

It's been a few years since I have done this but I now have some ideas as to how I can extend my DOF just a bit and get better pictures than I have have in the past.

It's all working now.

Response to Davethehiker:

You have to “phone home” about once a month if you are using CC. That is not out of character with subscription services.

RE the price, for less than 3 Starbucks Premium coffees per month, you get Lightroom, Photoshop, Bridge, LR CC + 20 GB of free storage, and Portfolio. Please stop carping about the price. It is a great deal. If you don’t think it is a great deal then find a better deal and post it here so everybody can partake.

I subscribe to PhotoShop CC and pay my monthly fee. I can't say I'm happy about it but it does keep me up to date with the latest versions of PS and Lr. I can afford it. Today when I opened a file in PS it informed me that I do not have connection to the Internet and then refused to continue until I established connection to the Internet. I live on a mountain top out in the boonies. Often I do not have connection to the Internet. That's why I prefer to store all my images on hard-drives and make two independent backups to hard-drives in my own home.

I was able to fire up my iPhone and make a hot spot that let me get onto the Internet. Then PS relented and let me continue with my work. I resent that much intrusion!

NOT Photoshop's problem. To insinuate that it was is very unkind.

Dunno what subscription you have but mine includes LR CC, LR Classic, and PS. Also a small amount of Adobe cloud storage.

LR classic is significantly more feature rich than CC and doesn't need the internet. Just checked with airplane mode and it powered up without problems, edited, saved. Didn't check PS as not on my laptop, only the desktop when back home. I have used the laptop on a week away without internet with no problems. I don't know how long LR classic will continue before it sulks and needs an internet connection to update/check licence but it is more than a week with my experience.

I don't use Adobe cloud as the capacity is small unless you pay even more, so back up OTG to external USBs, and keep the card intil I get home. Using LR Classic I download OTG from any cameras I have with me or from the phone on a daily basis.

Bottom line: do you need and use adobe cloud? If not disable it in the apps, and use LR Classic (which is faster and more features) or PS classic.

As to cost, being retired I wish it was cheaper but I understand Adobe's motive - there were more ripped off copies of PS and LR than there were paid for apparently. I resisted the subscription version for years but finally succumbed to get the LR catalog management back. Revenue pays for development and support, and it seems reasonable that the people who pay get the updates. Although the circa £100 p/a cost is cheaper than updating every 2 years previously, Adobe do a student edition, why not a wrinklies version?

There are other excellent 'pay once' / free options for both raw and jpeg users. For RAW ON1 is an excellent pay once alternative to LR with similar import/ image library/ raw processing alternatives. For PS the list of options is much bigger.

You could also add Lightroom CC CLASSIC to your programs. By syncing Lightroom CC with it, you can work independently of the internet.

There are actually 3 packages that come in that $9.99 bundle.

Bridge
PhotoShop
Lightroom

If you shoot in RAW, I find Bridge the easiest place to adjust the settings on the shot, before I bring it over into PhotoShop.

I didn't know that you got all 3 packages in the bundle for the first 2.5 years that I subscribed.

I had to reach out to them to get a link to download LightRoom. I had only needed the other two for a class that I was taking.

My suggestion to the OP is that on days that you have a solid internet connection, that the OP open one of the programs to let them all update.

I'm concerned that this most recent update requires you to enter your password. I'm not sure that I have that password recorded where I can locate it easily. I was in the software a few days ago, doing some research on the camera settings on some 4 year old shots, and I didn't need my password then.

I think using the "hot spot" is an excellent alternative when the internet is out.

The CC part of the subscription requires access. Lightroom Classic, part of the subscription, only checks monthly, as others have said. If you haven’t checked in within the last month Classic will still work, but it “greys out” the Development module until you’ve checked in.

You can work offline so long as your billing is up to date. I often do so.

If you want a hot spot look at these 4G LTE by TP Link

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/mifi/ (there are others but I use the M730 frequently so can confirm performance.) I see on amazon.com there are others which are locked to Verizon etc but I prefer a SIM free model.

Unlike a phone, they only do one thing and do it really well. In the same location with the same sim they outperform a cellphone by a significant margin. The hot spot allows multiple devices, and even the base model has 150mbs bandwidth. I use a prepay SIM with a data package so only top up when I go away. I've even hung it out the window in a waterproof sponge bag to get best signal :)

Affinity is no subscription and very, very compatible with PS. As someone else pointed out, Adobe will require connection now and then so the subscription can be verified, but since you have a hard time maintaining the connection, it might be prudent to switch to other software.

Read an article the other day about Adobes suite of software being a tech mess these days.
I pay $56 a month and am forced into all of these programs. People say find other software but
the truth is they own the working software for the whole graphics industry. PS, LR, illustrator, the pdf system Indesign etc. I am still working and exchanging files with clients and work partners requires
these programs. Also have to pay every year for a subscription to Microsoft Mac Office which is an inferior
To the PC version. I want to pay for services fairly. But I use Final Cut Pro not Adobe Premiere for my video editing. Companies that become dominant become bullies. Comcast is my major online where I live.
They steal my personal info what I buy, watch and even more unethical practices.
The other day I wanted to connect online to a magazine I have been getting for years.
A half hour later with multiple passwords and a very poor site I still haven’t got my paid for
online connection.
I call these companies predators like most American banks are now. The article also mentioned Apple
I have been using since it’s first machine. They want to dominate our experience and actions.
Adobe was always a company that was difficult. Just try and update your programs. Or use it in a second machine.
