And when you skip the drive up and go inside, you'll likely be served by someone who mumbles, makes no eye contact, never smiles and can't, or won't, say "thank you". And... if the register didn't tell them how much change to give you, they'd never be able to figure it out, I'm sure.

No big deal, I’d probably forget what I ordered anyway🤪

That may be your experience in Wisconsin but it's not mine. Generally I get faster, friendlier service inside. When I go inside I check to see what cars are waiting in line. When I come out again a lot of them are still there - waiting.

This is one reason why I never order from a drive-through window. I can't understand them, and they can't understand me.

A guy went to a restaurant for breakfast. It was called the Letters Restaurant. The communication between he and the waitress is as follows:

Man: FUNEM
Waitress: SVFM
Man: FUNEX
Waitress: SVFX
Man: OKLFMNX

What did the man order?

Much the same here ,when I call a service provider a.nd I get an overseas operator I now ask politely for an australian operator as I cannot understand them and they definitely can't understand me (have been caught out a few times when the operator is in Melbourne and then describes the weather to prove they are in fact in OZ 😉

Where do you guys live that you have such bad drive throughs?

Just stay at home and don't go out.

Tried that. Last time I ordered a porterhouse rare and got a veggie burger medium well. Didn't work.

Yah, when my great grand parents came here, they did not have english as the primary language either. But lo and behold, now all my relatives seem to speak it just fine.
I never ever make fun of somebody that is willing to work!

Weell, yeah, but. This is SoCal. We have the 3rd generation native born, ESL and entitled.

Had some company, so I ordered some pizzas, picked them up, and took them home
I had ordered a Vegetarian, a Supreme and a MeatZilla. Whatever I had, these weren't them.
I packed them up & went back. Did I get the wrong order?
The ESL guy goes back, yelling occurs. He comes out opens the boxes, and points at the sign.
2 guys in back- one speaks Spanish, the other is Indian and is learning Spanish. No English!
All 3 are new hires. They make the pizzas look like the pictures. He thinks that we're all (us returning disgruntled customers) just greedy Americans trying to get free pizzas!

We order pizza from a local place a couple of times a month...no language issues. Even they screw it up at times so I always check the boxes when I pick them up; sometimes they just get the orders mixed up😊

Well, that's the thing. Shroedinger's Pizza. IFF I opened the box, it's probably right. If I don't: maybe it is, maybe it isn't, maybe it's something else. I could have checked- the Supreme would probably look the same, right or wrong. I don't eat the vegetarian things, so unless I was deliberately looking for specifics like flavored soy meal meat substitute cubes, I might have missed that, too. I would have noticed the MeatZilla one tho- maybe the old picture behind a fuzzy sheet of plastic could have made the pepperoni look like dried broken tomato chunks- but not in real. I had people at my house, including nosy women and bratty kids- without me in it. I was hurrying.
BUT I did move a couple years back, and now I live a half block from a pizza place. I go once a month. They have sales- if I order 2 basic 3 item pizzas, carry out, online order: I get a great deal. Add extra incentives- I haven't ordered in more than 2 weeks, I'm in their "club", and it's Sunday afternoon: I can get an extra $2 email coupon @ 2pm. We just had a BOGOHO sale- Buy One Get One Half Off. I missed the 2Fer- buy 2 same "specialty" pizzas for the single price. There's the same leggy Asian woman behind the counter every time I go- everyone else is always ESL & new.
THIS crew always gets it right. They're a lot more professional about their jpb.

This is Los Angeles. It depends on the chain- and sometimes if it;s not. There was a pizza place that kept the sign of the plumber who had the shop before them.
The one now next to me is a Dominos, and it seems like a nice clean place with real food. No tables- just pick ups and deliveries.
I live near "my" hospital, @ a block or so behind a McD's. I went twice- they got them wrong both times, and the fries were "lite".
Also some companies with drive thrus have a timer- they need to get you thru the line in 15 minutes or less, which is why some pundits will say use the drive thru- you is a priority customer. The two McD's near me have an "overflow" portion of their parking lot. You pay, get a receipt, go all the way thru the line- and park. A minion will soon come running out to you with your order. Better check it!
AND if you're in the area of Carson and Normandie, get thee to Louies' and order a pastrami sandwich and fries.

It always sounds like the employee is talking thru a tin can, or has a clothes pin on their nose. The background noise also makes it hard to understand
