One thing the Sony has that seems to beat other cameras is their software for a remote release. I use it when I want to set up remotely or to include myself in a group shot. It works well and is easy to set up. Just a thought.

Mark, in the meantime, how about using the 2-sec shutter delay for stills? That doesn’t help with any kind of action shot, of course. Yeah, I think getting a cable release over to your left hand is the best bet. Best to you!

I continue to struggle with Parkinson's in my right hand and staying steady with shutter release. My index finger jumps. I have configured the AEL button for BBF. That has really helped. I've read and searched the Friedman manual and Youtube videos, but still have not determined if I can configure another button for shutter release. I'm thinking the left button, if possible, might really help. I do have a wired cable release and that definitely helps when using a tripod. However, using the cable release while hand holding seems very difficult.

Any suggestions or solution would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for viewing,
Mark

Hi Mark, as the option of button re assignment is not possible i wonder if the use of a flash or "L" bracket might help. Your remote release could be affixed to the left side of the bracket in some way and the bracket itself would assist as a larger stable platform for the camera.
I've looked on Amazon and e-bay (i'm in UK so no point in giving you a link here) and there appear to be a number of size and shape options available for a reasonable price. Hope this may assist, good luck

Thanks. That is an excellent suggestion. My issue is usually exacerbated with longer focal lengths. 200mm and less I can hold steady. Actually the monopod works well because my left hand can be free to use the remote shutter release. It's the hand holding shots(mostly of nature & wildlife) beyond 200mm that give me the most trouble. I've been practicing my shutter release technique.

Truly appreciate the suggestion.
Mark

Thank you. Creative idea!! I do have two Canon flashes. Perhaps mounting one and affixing the shutter release to it might work. An "L" bracket might be even better!!!
Uhh is terrific!! I'm receiving lots of support and suggestions.

Hi,
I'm new to posting but have been reading your blog for several months. I felt compelled to answer a post about the Sony RX10 IV as I recently purchased one. I'm still learning the basics. I do have a background in art.
The comment I would like to make is about a device I purchased that helped me hold the camera steady. It is the Novoflex PISTCK - C, purchased through B&H. The base fits against the chest and connects the camera around the neck to form a triangle and can be held with one hand. this would leave your other hand free to use a wireless shutter release. I mostly take pictures of my grandson at Cross Country meets and Track so he is always moving. Not easy but I have taken some decent photos of him this way.

Thank you!! May have potential for me. Looks interesting and would allow a free left hand for shutter release.
B & H has a wonderful "trial" period available. I purchase from them often.

I appreciate the time & energy you took to respond!

Thanks, Al!! Difficult to tell from the photo, but I assume the "button" for the shutter release is a usual cable release button?
Appreciate the suggestion. May have possibilities.

Mark, ever thought of adapting or making a 'rifle' stock for your camera? That plus a remote trigger might be worth a look...it would an attention getter. I'm sure there are sites on Google that could give you some ideas...Good luck Mark

I live in a condo (now). No real access to tools, work area, ... I do appreciate the idea/suggestion.
Thanks,

Knowing of your limited space here's a suggestion Mark, an option that might work by adding a remote trigger. Just food for thought, Cheers.

That looks like a bit of overkill. I do appreciate the suggestion.

Thanks,
