For me it would be # 1 hands down. Much more interesting crop.

Submitting a photo for a contest ... topic: fishing (that's it ... no other direction). I can't decide between #1 and #2 so any input would be very much appreciated.

Number 1 definitely.

CaptC hit the nail on the head...the first thing that caught my eye was the mountains.

#1 tells more of what the photo is really all about and true - it does not fit "fishing image" at all.

Since the topic is fishing i would definately go with the second picture because the boat is stationary and gives the impression of fishing. Good luck!

I like #1 better. I like the composition better.

[quote=gleneric]I like #1. I wonder what a verticle crop would do? It could make the boat larger. I can try it out if you like? David in Florida.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I will be going back through the images I shot to see if I have any that show the "fishing" aspect more clearly. I also just revisited the website regarding the photo contest, and noticed that they indicated a "preference" for horizontal/landscape orientation.

#1 has better composition. In my opinion, it doesn't need to be cropped. Good luck!

OK, I was just playing with it for discussion. Both are nice and I am jealous of your art and your location. We have not mountains in Florida.

I like #1. Too much empty space at the bottom of #2

I am also a camera club judge. The photos are beautiful, but I can't see anyone "fishing" in either one. I see someone rowing, but mostly I see mountains, and beautiful scenery.
