Having read on UHH lately of dust problems and oil on sensor problems I wonder if Nikon is slipping in their Research and Development Department, or are they just in too big a rush to get new gear on to a highly competitive market? Have the bean counters taken over and are now telling engineering and manufacturing how things have to be done?

If it's true that the spots on the D600 sensor are oil - caused by over-oiling, then the bean counters have had no effect. I don't think economy is hurting Nikon.

Rubbish. Follow your own advice: keep it simple; life is easier that way...

Every camera manufacturer produces a lemon now and then; canon did it with the T-60 (actually made by Cosina), Yashica made the Mat 124G (not really a lemon, but grossly overpriced because of some "gold" components) and even Leitz made the Leicaflex series (a technological late-comer). Maybe the Nikon D600 is in for the same fate.

Sorry, I wasn't inferring anything one way or another. I was just curious what others might think. I have seen the bean counters ruin more than one company.

Nikon is slipping After 1 year of reported issues with dust and dirt on the D600 Nikon they are finally addressing the issue with help from DP Review. Is Nikon getting to big for its britches ?

Isn't just Nikon - does the phrase "Camry recall" ring a bell. They didn't exactly cooperate at the beginning of their problems either. My understanding it has to do with the corporate culture of most big international companies. Anyone remember the word Corvair, you know the GM car that was unsafe at any speed.

Corvair...now that brings back memories. had a convertible 67 corvair. loved that car. even drove that "unsafe" car from canton, ohio to woodstock.

but then there was a major bad memory..I had to get married at 19 because of what happened in that corvair back seat.

but back on track.....if you are trying to buy a product based on support and service, you would never buy anything. I have had 1 really good experience with canon service and 1 really bad one. i bought a $300 full extra warranty on a sony vaio notebook and they refused to fix it....on and on....

one person can get great service and the next one gets lousy service.....it's the way it is.

accept it or don't buy anything.

Hey Doc ..... what would you do if you were Nikon ..... less than 1% of the D600 cameras sold experienced this issue .....

..... we have UHH members with the D600 without this oil and dust problem but a few do .....

Sorry but at what point do consumers say enough-when did we become accustomed to lousy service as a way of life. I know nothing is going to change but needed to rant anyway

If young people can bring down govts. using their cell phones, twitter, and facebook, consumers can effect changes in the corporate world. Things will change when we stop accepting poor service and poor products. Don't buy the product and get all over the social media about how poor the product is. Things will then start to change because no buy, no profit.
