Nikon 5100 40mm nikkor macro lens take 1-1/2 inches away. F stop is 5.6 asa 1/125 ISO is 160. The bug was on a leaf in a tree in my back yard and I was taking a picture of anothe subject when I saw him, he seems to be facing the camera.It was a sunny day so that helped him stand out on the leaf.

look in the macro section on here back a couple of months ago there were quite a few being shot
Actually, your image is of a pupa, with molted larva skin at base. A winged adult will eclose (emerge) within a few days.
