Amazingly clear, sharp photography with wonderful colors. Not just eagles. Interesting how well defined the control feathers are on the wing tips. I also like the images of the buildings.

Ah yes. Winter along the Mississippi River. From Iowa northward the heart of winter is frequently associated with great eagle photography especially around the Mississippi River Locks. Especially noteworthy is Lock and Dam 14 in LeClaire, Iowa where there is a walkway near the auxiliary lock that provided unobstructed close approach for fishing Bald Eagles.

The colder and harder the winter, the better the chance. No guarantees but not uncommon to see 60-80 long lenses lined up on a cold winter day.

Local camera club, QCPC, frequently has a member present chumming the water with net caught shad, the same fish the eagles are feeding on. No resistance from the Corps of Engineers.

I would presume that many of the other Locks are likewise populated by hungry eagles. I just do not know if you can get closer to the feeding waters.

FYI :-D

I am interested and these are great shots. I have spent the past two weeks chasing migratory Canadians, Snows and Blues, Ducks RUs and Eagles. Got them all on the Platte River in NE but I would not hold a candle to yours for sharp. What equipment were you using and yes I am aware that "it isn't the arrow, it's the Indian", but I am "interested".

Thanks for the replies everybody. Most of these shots were made with my new Tamron SP 70-300mm Di VC USD. ($449 with a $100 mail-in rebate, making it $349 - offer expires end of this month), on a Canon T4i. I got plenty of bad shots too, but we won't talk about them. I did a few on the last day with a Canon 70-300mm IS (non-L).

Thanks for the info on LeClaire, Bob. I will have to try that one if I get a chance.
