Apologies if his has been linked before but having just got my D600 I have been scanning the internet horizon for info.
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nikon+D600+Teardown/10708/1 It shows the extraordinary complexity of modern cameras (noteworthy take out at Step 14 - keep that BM-14 cover in place protecting the rear LCD. Badly scratch or crack the glass and you'll have to replace the WHOLE BACK of the camera). While I guess my various recent Nikons have helped me take better pics as they effortlessly set WB, ISO, contrast, tone etc and have thousands of scenes built into their amazing little memories to help me get the exposure right - actually I hardly need be there at all - it does bother me a bit that, like the twin turbo, fully automatic, car I now drive and even the watch on my wrist, the complexity has gotten away from most of us. You might understand the exposure triangle but do you REALLY understand what happens when you press that shutter

The D600 and the other Nikon Ds I've had are fantastic cameras and I find the current technological developments fascinating but I must admit an urge every so often to get my old Pentax serviced and tuned up. Its only claim to 'electronics' was a bouncy little arrow which claimed to measure the light - the rest was pretty well down to me. And if it jammed cos I'd dropped it and bent something, a gentle tap with a hammer worked wonders

Drat. These two UglyHedgehog links were supposed to show as smilies. Looks like I messed up that simple little task :-(
Absolutely fascinating. Anytime I question to cost of a camera, presentations like this help to justify. 900 screws? Whoa.
Wow. Now try to put it back together- want to bet there will be a few left over screws? ;)
I'm speechless! I will never put my camera down on anything hard. And I now understand full-frame better. I could go on and on, but I promised to be speechless.
I hade an old German toolmaker tell me once in his heavy accent,"Two kinds of people will take the back off their watch............................A--holes and watchmakers.

I think you missed a "0", I read it to say 9000 screws. WOW

Yep. Wow indeed! I started this as a kind of reluctant acknowledgement of the complexity of modern cameras with a nod to the fact that it used to be so relatively simple. But of course I would never have delved into the innards of even my basic all-manual camera. Or my clockwork watch as one of you pointed out! So now I'll just marvel at he cost v complexity equation. How do they make these things for the price? It surely cannot be nimble little fingers any more. Has anyone ever seen the Nikon, or any other, production line? I should YouTube that I guess!
