Pat (Patography) and I are hosting this weekend's challenge - 'Into the Night,' which is all about night photography. (This challenge was on the calendar as 'Walkin' to the Freakin' Weekend') I am certainly not an expert on this topic or particularly accomplished, but it is an area of photography that intrigues me, and one in which I am constantly experimenting and trying to improve. I know that many of you who participate in these challenges have posted some amazing night photos, so I hope you will participate and also share your settings with us.
Our constant wet weather conditions have kept me from providing all new examples. All of my examples are handheld and taken with no flash. The downloads show much greater detail. I hope to post some new examples later in the challenge that are taken with the use of a tripod.
The following link is from the blog of a professional photographer who gives some very user friendly tips and techniques for night photography.
http://mostlylisa.com/blog/night-photography-a-guide-on-how-to-shoot-long-exposures/Pat and I are looking forward to seeing your night shots!
One of my favorite shots from the 2012 Christmas season.
Taken last night - A project that we thought our county was crazy to construct - a turnabout at one of our busiest intersections. It has been a smashing success! The lighting is 'daylight' bright and in my haste I didn't get the lights fine tuned!
Made a quick grocery run tonight at a local grocery story. The setting was dark, gloomy and rainy.
This shot was taken at a local play. I was in the back of a darkened auditorium experimenting with shots using no flash. The shadows are the heads I was shooting through!
You had to go there didn't you! I love this topic. We actually have a set up later on in march for the same thing LOL. See I am a bit of a spontaneous person so I don't pay much attention to the calendar... I like surprises LOL.
It just so happens that I just picked up a new toy for Christmas. I bought myself an intervalometer which allows me to set my camera to take a picture anywhere in the range of 1 second to 999 minutes (although that is pretty insane), It also allows me to do time lapse and set the camera to take a picture at time set intervals using the same tiime table 1 second to 99 minutes, It's a pretty neat little toy. Now I just have to find time to play with it LOL.
Here are a few from the archives and I will come up with some new ones soon!
My town at night
Local lake
haloween decorations from this past halloween
tonights moon
Another shot taken back in December, 2012, of part of our church campus. I was trying out my new lens, Tamron 18-270mm Piezo Drive. I was excited - handheld, no flash or post processing.

Thanks! I want to do some star trails, that is actually the only reason I bought this LOL. The only problem is, there is too much light pollution in the city

Hey there, Cricket, long time - no see! I have also been insanely busy and dismayed that I haven't been able to comment much lately as well! I am actually embarrassed to show up out of the blue to host this challenge. I hope you get a chance to take some shots! Take care ~

I know what you mean, I am supposed to co-host in March one weekend too and was feeling the same way. LOL - I know people understand. Everyone gets busy from time to time. It is good to see you.
