Can anyone who's done boudoir photography explain what type of lights are best for Boudoir (bedroom) photography? I would love to understand the best lighting for this type of photography. Any links or explanation would be greatly appreciated.
wow, no responses?
Soft lighting - soft box, indirect, bounced.
There are many ways to achieve the same effect, but soft shadows - low key is the process
Primarily a wedding photog, but quite a wealth of info. I went head and bought his book and was very pleased with it. And I'm very critical:
http://neilvn.com/tangents/http://neilvn.com/tangents/2010/01/19/lighting-boudoir-photography/http://www.better-boudoir-photography.com/Good reading on those three. I've only done a few sessions and they were personaL favors. And I was honest, gave' client' the selections A selections and the B, deleted the rest as promised.
It is a fun though trying type of photography. Sometimes, no amount of skill in photography or in editing can fix things as the client sees it.
Best wishes!
many thanks. This will help. I am ready to purchase my lights but will delve deeper into what kind and how many.
Thanks again.
Oh, yes, study n research before u spend. But pretty much any lighting will do -,it's the modifiers such as softbox that make it work.
Let me know how it goes
photo1017, thanks for the links. I found them quite nice. I'll look over them more to get some more info. on what the setting were.
Thanks for sending them to me!!
I've used soft boxes with gels over them. Once I used a dark bedsheet over the softbox. That time actually worked out better than using the gels. Good luck!!

Too many ways to do Boudoir Photos. I put a white shower curtain over a window and let the diffused light fall on the subject.
that sounds like a good idea!

For me any low light situation, gives the viewer more to imagine
I like the lite panels, reflectors & available lighting. dont rule out window light & reflectors. You may want to set a special mood.....
strobe lights, continuous ????? I just went to the Cowboy website for camera equipment and it mentions continuous and strobe lighting. Can someone tell me the difference? Which would be best for boudoir?
I have to say I am somewhat overwhelmed with all this information I'm getting here. I know there is more than one way to skin a cat, but I'd like to get a 'starter' package of lights to start with. I don't want to order stuff I won't use because someone mentioned it on here. So I'd like to do strictly boudoir images for now. Any suggestions on a starter kit for me until I gain more experience? What I want to order (from B&H because of the BIll ME Later) is maybe another lens (right now I have my kit lens for my Canon EOS 60D which is 18mm -135mm and I also bought a 50mm .45m/1.5ft.). I'd like suggestions on what type of lens I really should purchase other than those. I would also like suggestions on the lights of course, and a tripod. I have a cheap one from Best Buy but hate it. Hard to use.
I'm also going to need an arm to hold the reflectors. I really want to get started with this project so if you've used something that works great, please tell!!
Anyone know where I can also get sheer fabric (I'll be hanging if from a doorway so it needs to be large). I hate those backgrounds that you buy so I will come up with my own. I'm also painting a graffiti wall to use but want lots of sheer fabric so if you know where I can get it cheaper than JoAnne fabric please include that. I'm working with a limited budget to start (divorce settlement) and I'm excited to get it up and running before Christmas.
I also have a degree in computer graphics so I will be doing my own logo but could anyone tell me where I can get a professional website created? I never learned that part in school.
So I know this is a lot but this is what I'm in need of. I was advertising for a partner (hoping they knew more than me) but nobody answered my ad. I really want to wing it here but need help from experienced people on this site. Everyone has been so informative!! I'd love to post some of the photos I do once I get up and running.........
Ok, please help!! LOL!
Also because I'm on a tool here................the website has to include where they can purchase their package and such.
Anyone in my area want to partner with me?? Ok, just thought I'd ask. I have some really good ideas that no one does in this area. I'm near the Poconos!! Send me a private message if interested!!
that was supposed to be 'on a roll'....sorry
