A New Lesson Learned

I just learned that if one has limited financial resources, they should never order a new lens or other expensive photo gear the day before a vet appointment for your pet. Two days ago, I purchased a new Canon 85mm 1.8 lens, on sale at B&H for $359. I also made an appointment for Tuckers' (My avatar) yearly checkup. Yesterday after paying for the checkup and finding out I am looking at between $360 to close to $500 for a dental cleaning and all that goes with it, I am having buyers remorse. Not that I don't want the lens, but the cost would have taken care of Tucker's teeth! Oh well, it's only money, and he is an awesome cat. I'll have to post some photos of his pearly whites after I get my lens.

If it is any consolation, if I had to choose between my wife getting her teeth cleaned or getting a new lens, I will take the lens any day.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but where I come from you can buy an entire brand-new cat for maybe $5.00. It will be indistinguishable from the old one.

Go figure.

True generally speaking I suppose. I got Tucker for free! However, he is special, but so is that lens.

Dental work for our two dogs came to just over $1,000.00 last trip around.

Ha, tell me about it. I now have a $2400 cat, not including the $200 purchase price. He needed replumbing, but could no more get rid of him than one of our kids. Could have paid for a Mark 2 tho.

Yep, that's why the lens would have stayed there if I had known about the vet bill. My animals come 1st. If it was my own dental bill, I would probably just put it off and got the lens. It was on sale!
Don't feel guilty about you camera. It was a gift, enjoy it! The truck will get fixed somehow, eventually.

I must admit, if I was given the choice of a cat or a Mark2 for the same price, I think I would be catless! (I don't care if it is not a word.) I love my cat but given the choice prior to knowing him, it would have been an easy decision. Now, I wouldn't trade him for anything.

If you had only bought one of his cars when you could, you could clean his teeth and buy all KINDS of stuff too!

A suggestion; take them one at a time so you can cut your bill in half, just a thought. LOL

I had an alsatian dog that loved having his teeth brushed - even had his own toothpaste (for pets)
Or maybe he just hated going to the vet.

Like they all say "there is no such thing as a *free* cat". LOL I can attest to that too.
