Lighting, the basic ingredient of photography, is todays challenge. This text is written by a self taught pre-amateur photographer who has learned, and still is learning the beauty of light and how to use it to enhance and create unique presentations.
Today I would like to see how you use light to make your photos have that personal look, your own touch of the use of light and also what light does as a second subject such as shadows. I will not touch shadows today..well maybe a bit, not much though.
I would like to see every aspect of light from sunlight to Coors Light which means that you have a football field on which to work.
I'll Cheat and use a scanned photo of indirect light
evening soft light off the Arkansas River
Direct light
back lighting
And mine
Without light there are no shadows
Great start to another fun challenge j & j.
Some from last summer & fall and one from last week.

GOOD MORNINGGGGGGGGGGGGGggg
Yes today is all about lighting and the way we use it and what else it does.
Let me start out the day with sunrise lighting..
So I used, as always for low light, Tv and the first two were taken from a pool. Yes 6:00AM in a pool to catch early morning light and also the job that light does when it is at a low angle and it hits the spray almost on its own level
Those of you who do stained glass wil recognize the bubble effect glass in the corners, the bubbles cast a different look because of the angles and the sun being also at an angle.
No, it is not a great composed shot but only because of where it is located in my shed. Anyway here you can see how different colours can be affected by light. I found way back in my Minolta days that using pieces of stained glass made some weird filters.
P1 Great start jfan. Like your paths, Irene and i'm drooling over the sunrise and the ocean. No sun here so far today. An archive dig probably for me.

We have ''shoveling sun'' this morning and are anxiously(?) awaiting about a foot and a half of snow, but I am sure that both you and Irene can connect here.
Just two from this winter.
Sunlight, shadow & reflection. Old coastal defence gun battery
Waiting for the "dawn" which never really "happened"
Thanks for hosting jfan..wonderful beginning by all...hope to get back later...
