I have a Tamron 90mm Macro lens(AF Di) and wish to extend its facility by using a reverse lens adapter, however the main lens is quite deeply recessed and wonder if this will allow the extra use I require. Any help would be appreciated

How do filters fit? Are they recessed? The reversing adapter I use mounts like a filter with a thread for the filter size of the lens to be reversed.
There are also adapters that allow the reverse-mounting of a lens directly to the camera

This lens is deeply recessed, but works with a reversed lens. I had never tried it, but after reading your post, I reverse mounted a Nikon 50mm 1.8D to my Tamron 90mm.

It is usable with your Tamron set at, or near infinity. If you screw the focusing barrel out to near maximum, it virtually becomes a microscope, & is next to useless, with almost no DOF.

If you just want to increase your magnification a little, it might be worth forgetting a secondary lens & trying an extension ring or two. Just a thought.

Thanks, the filters fit as normal,ie screw in on the front.I was, however, concerned because the lens is quite deeply recessed from any item screwed in the front.

Check in the "True Macro" section on UHH and see what previous posts have to say there.

If you use the Tamron reversed, you will have little or no room for lighting. Though it is possible. I have mounted a half silvered mirror to the end of a reversed macro lens at a 45 degree angle acting as a beam splitter and shining a light on the mirror provides co-axial illumination to the subject. This was for approx. 10:1 repro ratio on 8X10 film.
