We are planning our Summer vacation.
I need suggestions of what to do and best places for family entertainment and to photograph in the Smokey Mountains. Keep in mind, I am disabled using a power chair.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Dollywood should be handicap friendly. Any of the Historic stops on the Appilachian Trail Drive have handicap access, as does the Cheerokee visitor site.
There are lots of pull offs in the mountain where you get shots from your wheel chair. You will definitely love it there and never run out things to take pictures of. Pigeon forge is just 5 miles away and Cherokee is over the mountain just 25 miles away. Definitely worth driving over there. You will love it.
If you can fit it in go see Biltmore in Asheville, NC. Unbelievable experience. Lovely hugh garden an d they make some pretty good wine.
Do not, under any circumstances, miss Cades Cove!
There's a photo opp EVERYWHERE you look!
Was just there this past October and you will have no problem with wheelchair accessablity. Many pull offs and very handicap friendly. There is a sky needle in Gatlinburg that has an elevator and you can see for miles. I hope you enjoy it as much as my husband and I.

Oh, thanks so much for sharing.
We are looking forward to visit the area, mainly the majestic Smokey's.
Would I be able to buy Venison sausages?
CADES COVE is beautiful during that time of year too. Sometimes you get to see allot of wide life roaming too. When I was last there I got to see some baby bears.
Every stopping place in the Smoky Mountains National Park is good. The park has maps and the personnel will know which trails have wheel chair access. Don't miss the beautiful flowing waters of the GSMNP!

Have been there several times; with and without the grandkids. Dollywood is very accessible and a pretty neat place. Shows, rides and such. Train is the real deal; coal fired, working antique. Lots of photo opportunities--just look around, (and behind). I posted a few in Gallery--if there's no link here then I messed up.. I'll post a few here.
OK, not actually IN Dollywood, outside of our cabin. If you're wondeirng why I sat my drink down-- I had to take a picture.

I've been there many times...they're just so many things to see, you won't be bored that's for sure. I put together my quick list. I'd Google some of these to get more detailed information to plan your trip. In the meantime...Welcome to the Smokeys'
1. Clingmans Dome just off Hiway 441 near Newfound Gap. It is one of the highest points in the Smokeys. There is a parking area 3/4 of a mile below the summit which offers great views.
2. Eat at the Old Mill Restaurant in Pigeon Forge. This is a very popular spot though, and waiting times can be as long as an hour. But well worth the wait. All homemade dishes served family style.
3. Aquarium of the Smokeys. Has an excellant aquarium with a viewing tunnel that goes through the aquarium.
4. Roaring River Auto Tour. A nice drive through the woods with some spectacular vistas and lots of streams. As the name imply's, it's all visible from your car.
5. The Space Needle. Has an elevator that takes you 470 feet above the city of Gatlinburg. The elevator leaves every 5-10 minutes. Once on the viewing deck, it is fenced in so you don't have to worry about going over the edge.
6. Apple Barn and Cider Mill in Pigeon Forge. This is a complex containing several shops. A winery, Christmas shop, Ice cream shop, cider mill and restaurants. The decor is wonderful.
7. Dollywood. Be prepared for huge crowds...take some water.
Enjoy your trip...
Cades Cove is very picturesque & as such, tends to draw lots of sightseers. Best to get there when they open...Clingmans Dome is another great place to go...Google them for more specifics
