This problem is similar to another recent photo I posted. I was taking pictures in a old mission church in Arizona which did not allow flash photo.

I used auto focus with no flash on my Canon PowerShot digital camera. The subject of the picture was a statue in one of the church alcoves. There were small windows up high and one of them did allow some light into this particular alcove. There was also a table of lit candles to the left of the alcove

Due to use of auto focus I am not certain re the settings but believe they were approximatly ISO 400, 1/125, F2.8. I thought the photo might come out blurry without the flash so I took several from the same angle, about 8 feet from the statue. This was the only one that came out like this.

That looks like a blow out from a high window...and smeared due to low shutter speed.

IT LOOKS LIKE AN ANONMALLY TO ME ! wow...
Honestly.....Wonder if you get the same....'mistake', anywhere else.
AND:
If you explain it with tech terms: CAN I GET A COPY OF HOW THIS HAPPENED FOR EXPLAINER? I would more likely believe the camera did it, with examples.
I never get that shaped light....
Explain it with tech, but I am wide-eyed!
I vote you just took a picture. (but I DO believe in God)

I love to go to the old missions, went to the ones around San Antonio Tx a couple summers ago and want to go again. So this is just my take and I don't discount the possibility of 'unique aberrations' picked up in a photo.

In the first photo there are also light trails from the candles along with the large white trail, so there was camera movement although even slight movement will cause trails. The light trail in the upper right doesn't seem to have a visible source. The only electric light I see is in the 2nd photo and is far below the where the upper right trail seems to come from and seems to cast it's light more toward the opposite side toward the opposite wall. I would think that it could be caused by a secondary light source being projected from the left upper side from a flood light on the back wall of the alcove and/or from behind the archway shown in the 2nd photo. There is a light source shining on the archway in the 2nd photo but if one draws a line of angle downward further into the alcove it appears any light would strike between the right column and statue (on the left side of statue) and below the right hand light source. Sun angle through windows are very important in figuring out just where light aberrations originate. Both photos are a smidgen out of focus which will also distort points of light. Not being there to examine any light sources from the back side of the alcove and window placement really makes it tough to locate source points. Also none of the light streaks are translucent in their center nor transparent which lends more to them being light reflected or refracted from a natural source. Now an interesting second test would be to return to the mission at a totally different time of day when the Sun is positioned in an opposite direction and see if there are any other aberrations that could not be attributed to a natural or artificial light source, perhaps near dusk would be a more true test. Yea, I like to do analysis of various strange things. If you get back to the missions at some point, give the test a try and see what you get. I've see some really strange aberrations in photos which couldn't really be explained away, but I don't think this is the case. But I could be wrong...just ask my daughters...chuckle.

camera movement.

Nothing mystical or spiritual about this shot I'm afraid.

No, nothing mystical. I'm pretty sure the aberration resulted from camera movement and a reflection off a panel just to the left of the statue. Still, it is fun to think about what can show up in a photo. Thanks to all for sharing this with me!!

Technically, I agree with the other comments- camera movement. However, if you removed the candle streaks in the lower left, you may be able to sell it to a new age magazine as a ghost or miracle capture.

I agree camera movement, the streaks from the candles in first one give it away, however it's more fun to think its a ghost.. Looks like your enjoying your life traveling with your cat...Have fun!

I can tell you are right handed as the first photo looks like you pulled away just as the shutter was closing. Or some one bumped into you right at the end of the shutter.
