The dinky internal lens caps on some recent pancake lenses are inevitably going to be lost unless tied down.
This is how I applied some restraint to mine.
The 2mm hole in the edge of the cap is easily made with a pillar drill.
To accommodate the knot make sure the hole is opposite a void on the inside of the lens cap.
Tie the other end to somewhere convenient.
Lock the knots with pva glue or similar.
(Sorry about the dust. No wonder sensors run into trouble!)

I used velcro on my old Olympus cap and the velcro mate on my caerma strap. It worked great so have been thinking of velcroing my new Nikon lens caps too. Odd they don't add little holes for attachments in the factorys.

I have had those little straps to keep your lens cap from going walkabout. I instantly hated them with a volcanic hatred. Nothing more irritating than a lens cap swinging in the breeze.

I agree. When you turn the camera to Portrait and the bit of string dangles in front of the lens. Plus, what happens when you switch lenses?

i did it,that's how i lost 2 important caps; the velcro is not strong enough and sometimes will atach to fabrics etc.

Used to use Fuji Bridge and would just let the lens cap go, as was on a string. Now have Canon 600d and keep letting the lens cap go and am surprise to see it drop to the floor. Supposed I will get out of that habit one day.

Hope you're talking about the lens cap!

krispix.
Sorry, should have said the 'somewhere convenient' I tie the string to is a key ring just looped onto my wrist strap - quickly changed if required.

Thanks for correction Krispix. Lenses on strings, now there's a thought.

That's why I stopped using one. Not very professional-looking (not that I am trying for that look). Many have a little piece that attaches to the cap with a piece of double-sided tape - that eventually falls off, dropping the cap.

These are available on eBay and Amazon for very low prices. The best "cap" is the automatic built-in cap on P&S cameras.

Certainly convenient. But I'm not sold on the idea.

8 Lenses hanging from my belt on bits of string. Hmmmmm!

I would look very funny with a lens cap in a shirt pocket...
