I would like to add a macro lens to my bag but not sure which one. I have a Nikon D7000 that use for most of all my photos, I also have a D80 that I use once in a while. Any suggestions?

How much would you like to spend? Nikon starts at about 300 all the way up to 1600 bucks.

I don't really have a price range, I am mainly looking for a good quality lens that I can take close ups with.

Close-up or Macro? The 105VR is a great lens. This decision depends a little on how you will use it: If most of your use is with a tripod, you can probably get by without image stabilization. Check out the UHH macro forum. One of the best there uses a Tokina which is about $300 less than the Nikkor. If you are shooting critters, I would recommend something in the 100mm range. Others use a Sigma and a number the Nikkor. Check out the set-ups on the macro forum.

Ok then have a look at the Nikon 105G VR2 macro lens...very nice piece of equipment. Like LoneRanger said...have a look at the equipment set-ups on the macro forum.

Consider the Nikkor 200 mm macro, while not vr and its a bit slow at f4 its very sharp, it gives you more working room than the 105mm if your old and have stiff joints its a blessing.

I have both Nikon's 105mm and 60mm macros. I use them interchangeably. The 60mm has a wider field of view and lets me get a bit closer than the 105 will, but the 105 lets me pick more distant items better then the 60. For instance, yesterday I was shooting orchids in a conservatory. Used the 60mm for those mounted up to eye height and the 105 on those above that. Another for instance is I will shoot tulips up close with the 105 because of the narrower field of view.

I also have the D7000 and use the Tokina 100mm, $490 New out of box. No VR but I use flash to stop camera/bug movement. As mentioned check out the Macro Forum for all your answers concerning Macro.

Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions. I was already leaning toward the 105G VRll lens. This will probably help me make my purchase. I will post some pics once I get it. Thanks again.
