Do any of you know what might be close to the Canadian version of B+H photography store, or is B+H the best way to go for studio lighting equipment, I was thinking about the shipping and handling, thanks.

Have you tried local camera shops? If they don't have in stock what you want, they probably are willing to order for you:
Sometimes B&H is the cheapest option. A number of our canadian chains for whatever reason have trouble competing (and that is even after shipping / taxes are considered).
I don't know what that is other than maybe we're just getting ripped off. I just can see a reason why items like film or filters need to be twice as much in Canada.
Thanks Ester, I do use the camera store but they don't have a very large selection when it comes to lighting equipment and they are more expensive then a lot of the American stores.

Very expensive especially with our dollar on par. Go Oilers Go! I was in Edmonton during the Gretzkyy years and saw the Oil win those five cups.

I've got family (in-laws) in Calgary so I'm down there all the time. Vistek is usually my choice down there.
For pricing, it depends on the item. Some items just are much cheaper to ship cross boarder - especially with the dollar at par. I still don't understand why Canadian retailers are ripping us off so bad on some items. Yes, I do understand cost of business is a bit higher here (taxes), but when we can be competitive on so much else, it doesn't make sense.
I agree 100% Especially since we have a free trade agreement with the U.S.A.
