Macro flash

I shoot a small number of items using macro. I normally set up a couple of strobes but would like to get away from this setup. I don't want to spend several hundred $ for equipment that will be used 2 or 2 times a year. Has anyone had experience with one of the less expensive, $40 - $50 imports on Amazon, ebay and numerous other venders. I've always been a firm believer in you get what you pay for but was hoping I could get some input concerning the less expensive units.

O-Flash for about $40.00 on e-bay. I have one and it does a nice job.

Sorry, I don't really shoot macro, but here's how I handle real close up items I shoot. I just use my Lite-Scoop mounted as shown here and it gives great soft light without having to carry extra equipment, since my flash almost never goes anywhere without the Lite-Scoop anyway. Costs about $30. on Amazon or Ebay and is good for more than just macro photography.

Wow! Tell me more about this light scoop. How does it diffuse light and how do you use it. You got my interest.
