Two or three were quite difficult to find, especially that Snipe!
I picked out the photographer, were there any others?
Most interesting.
So much so that I just ordered Art Wolfe's book "Vanishing Act" which is where these photos came from.
I guess it takes 35 years to amass such a wonderful collection on such an unusual but fascinating subject.

I thought it was illegal to shoot snipe? ;)

Restricted, not illegal. And we don't shoot 'em; just catch 'em. You have to use a paper bag and a flashlight at night.

You were looking in an image for a snipe that was shot with a camera....
I was taught to hunt snipe with a flashlight, thick leather gloves and a burlap sack.
That was bested by killing sea-bats with a mop on a Destroyer.

Thats right! A gunny sack. Forgot about that.
And I hate winged sea-rats.
I am no wildlife photographer, but I'll toss in this Gannet chick. Mum is kind of obvious, but baby blends in fairly well.
We have an interesting wildlife history here in New Zealand. Because there were no natural predators, our birds felt happier wandering the forest floor foraging for food, and some evolved to become flightless, like the kiwi.
But then we had the Haast's eagle which was the size of a small car. Without flight, the Kiwi Takahe and Kakapo were crap at hiding from the Haast's eagle, so they evolved to be nocturnal. Mean while the Haast's eagles gorged themselves on the ostrich like moa, until the Maori arrived and ate all the Moa.
The Haast's eagle became extinct, and the Maori ate each other! I so wish there were still Haast's eagles in our world.

Right on, about the bag and flashlight! I was taken 'snipe hunting' many years ago. Came up empty after a long, exhausting hunt :-(
