One of my favorite sayings is, "There is no such thing as a squirrel proof bird feeder".

Then I learned about the Yankee Flipper.

Be patient for showtime...I assure you it is worth the wait:

This is a great picture. We have a tree stump in the front yard that I've been putting peanuts on. One morning I neglected to put any out and a squirrel appeared at the bottom of our front steps looking towards the front door. The next morning there were two of them sitting on the front walk. When I opened the door, one of them hopped up on the front step. That does it. Sic'em dog. The dog woofed one time and went back to sleep. Squirrels took off and they never appeared at our doorstep again.

You actually could have hand fed them, which we did with some black squirrels one summer. They would have become like friends and you'd have enjoyed it.

My wife fed a squirrel every day at one time. It stopped when the squirrel got nasty when she didn't have the food when it was wanted - she had gone out on the deck and it chattered nastily and darted in and out like it was going to attack - she got in the house and that was the end of the squirrel feeding.

The vidio is fairly accurate except that mine wore out in about 2 months or less. I decided to feel the squirls almong with the birds. 4 Feeders, 5 small fish ponds, a hawk and owl that hunt all in my back yard. I keep the ponds covered with a net to keep the herins out of the koi. wildlife in any size in enjoyable to watch.

I live on an Air Force base, and the squirrel mafia is STRONG here. We can't keep the squirrels out of our bird feeders, (that Yankee feeder looks cool, but the squirrels are smarter then that and would just jump on it until the bird seed was completely on the ground). So I took a scrap piece of wood, carved "WELCOME" on it with my router, screwed three 3" lag screws through a platform and now I feed them dried corn on the cob to distract them from the bird feeders. The show is pretty funny ..watching (and listening to) the squirrels yell at each other, and now I get to have the best of the birds too. I only wish I was back up north where there are more colorful birds. There MIGHT be color here, but I've not seen it yet.
Can anyone from this area tell me any tricks

Thankfully I don't have many "tree rats" in my neighborhood...Most are seen on the road out behind my house.

We used to have a large (24") round, curved shield positioned right over the feeders. If the squirrels jumped onto it, they would slide right off. It was something like this, only flatter. I think we got it in Lowe's.
