RAID ARRAY with Macbook Pro Retina

I have never used a Raid array before. Does anyone have any warnings or help that might assist me to decide whether its worth buying a raid enclosure or a just a 'bunch of disks' box.

I use it for photo library and HD video editing. I currently use Time Machine which backs up in the background every hour.

Any thoughts would be welcome

Check out the Drobo system. I've been using a 4bay model for years now. Easier to use than generic raid.

I have the LaCie 2Big 4T RAID I use on my MBPr. I have two LaCie RAID enclosures, one is set up as RAID 1 for speed, the other is for Time Machine and set up as RAID 0 for redundancy. Both are tethered with Thunderbolt cables. Each enclosure has dual internal Seagate 2TB 7200rpm drives. The drives can be kind of noisy, doesn't bother me but may others.

Works well for me and was very easy to set up right from the MBPr drive utility. MacMall had the LaCie 2Big on sale for $299 as refurbs, this is what purchased.

Good luck,
